Hello, TPU. I would like to replace my 5770 with some more stable card. (This Powercolor HD5770 is not stable for most games. Causes irregular framerates)
What card do you suggest for me?
Also, I will be buying a new 20" monitor and the card at the same time.

My budget is $200

GTX460, no question. It's a significant step up from a 5770 and it's probably the current price/performance king.

If it's not urgent, I'd wait for the first 67XX benchmarks to pop up. They might be worth the wait and if not, you'll probably get the GTX460 cheaper by then.

Well, I would sell my 5770 for $120 (bought it for 190usd) and was thinking of adding a bit more money. Would and upgrade from 5770 to GTX460 worth it?

Also, I play GTA IV allot and doesn't want too much lag on this game that increases graphics on higher end card. And I don't want microstuttering (my 5770 does it most of the time)

I think I'd go for the 460 as well, though your CF plan in your specs seems like a very good option as well. Unless you already have a buyer for your 5770.

Any reason why you're going for a 20 inch? They're not significantly cheaper then a 22 inch these days. I paid 150 euro for my award winning LG W2253V (and loving it). It's 16:9 though but 2 ms which is nice for gaming. 16:10 I couldnt find the same value for money at all.

gtx460 1GB or 2GB?

The reasn why I would go for a 20" is because a 22" would take much space from my desk. But.. a 21.5" would fit here perfectly. Already chose a 21.5" from another topic @system builder's guide

GTX 460 760MB would be a nice, stable card at $199.

Or fork $20-30 more to get the 1gb version, always a plus with gta4, which is a bitch to tbh. I've seen great cards fall to their knees, somethings not right in that game.

YES. I have seen a quad sli video and they still get 20fps+ maxed (although I get 40+ @high)
Maybe this explains it: "Increased performance will be noticed on more powerful systems" which is located at the back of the cd case. (which means, it adapts to the system and increases it's quality depending on processor and card) But.. on topic, what would be better, 1GB or 2GB?

Its a gamble really to base your buy on a single game, especially gta4, you might end up frustrated. I'd only pay a premium for the 1gb model, thats it. :toast:

Some people say the fans are like jet engines (evga), you might want to go for the GB model, if you want to OC that card. Its a great OC'er. It has a nice cooling setup. Anf for your earlier question, yes, sli scales better than cf, ftm.

what about gtx465 by gigabyte? or i should really go with 460. ?
also i was planning on buying msi p55gd85 for sli. OR.. stay with GTX460, then keep upgrading? :/ OR.. buying big bang fuzion (w/ lucid hydra), then stay with gtx460, then add a cheaper card like 9800gt to match with gtx460. OR.. you could suggest me a good board for sli

MSI's cards are pretty good. But they cost like 300usd here (GTX460 by msi)

.... edit: nvm, that was the 465 that costs 300

IMO upgrade from 5770 to 460 is not a big enough leap to go to the trouble, just my opinion, but if i were you id scrape up a few more pennies wait for the 6000 series launch, which will cause prices to fall and then you can probably pick up a 470 for the price of a 460 now, or maybe even sli two 460's or get a 480,

so in conclusion.. 5770 to 460..not worth time
prices dropping in two months so save up a little and get a lot more bang for your buck

also btw what do you mean by stability, you mean low frame rates? cause ive never heard of a 5770 being unstable? are you sure its the video card and not something else? i think a 5770 should be able to do really well on a 15" monitor, granted you are upgrading, but is it giving you low frames on a 15" monitor?

Right now your best bet would be a 2nd 5770. Then a gtx460 1GB.

@assaulter

I don't know, my card is pretty darn quiet. About as quiet as my stock Intel HSF.

If you really want it for GTA then just get the 2 GB (it wants 1.6+) and throw it up to 850 core. You'll be maxing games for a good long while.... except for metro, which is ok since it's awful.

I don't know personally, since I haven't have ears on experience with it, but it seems to be louder than its counterparts, reading from countless posts.:D
