Hello am looking for the best thermal paste for my 980x and the best way to spread it on the chip.I was going for me MX-3 and spread vertically on the cpu in a line.

Any Suggestions?

Yes i mean for the 980x,and links you provided are both outdated.Different methods can be used to achieve better results for different processors.Am refering to users which have the 980x,asking what thermal paste they use,how they spread it and their results.

OK, I won't argue... enjoy your 980x.

But, for your info... the first link is less than 30 days old and if you cover the CPU with good tim, evenly spread and use the proper amount, you will get excellent heat transfer to the base of the cooler.
And the second link is not outdated; the same practice applies for singles, dual, quads, twelve, or even more cores.

Have a nice day.:)

The particular CPU doesn't make much of a difference in which TIM or method of application works best. The IHS is fairly uniform across different CPUs. It's the heatsink and how smooth/rough/gapped its surface is that makes the biggest difference in which TIM and application method will be the most effective.

So if you want specific replies, specify which HSF you're using. You wouldn't find a whole lot of 980x owners anyway. Also, 95Viper gave you good info and links. I suggest you look them over.

Well if you have a 980X I guess you can afford your own team of thermal paste researchers; no need to come here or to google it.

Welcome Stavr0s91i,

You're being a little vague in your thread. To begin with, I'd highly recommend filling in your system specifications so that we can get a clear understanding of what hardware you're using.

So far, the advice given has been pretty much spot on. Personally I've always and will continue to use Arctic Silver 5.

I personally enjoy either MX-2 (now MX-3), IC Diamond 7 (my personal fave and best for temps for What Ive done so far) or Scythe's Mugen 2 paste, which is super easy to apply.

+1. I'm lovin' it! It is VERY easy to spread, not that expensive, and doesn't take time to cure.

And it works good sub zero :)

The Noctua NT-H1 is a great paste but I prefer MX-2. It's a tad runnier and spreaders better with less pressure. MX-3 is terrible, whenever I remove a heatsink I see the MX-3 mostly stuck on the surface of one base rather than like MX-2 where both bases have an equal amount stuck on it. I have a tube of MX-2 and MX-3 in my drawer and I prefer MX-2.
