Got myself a job finally and have some money coming to me very shortly which means I will be able to build a nice gaming computer for a desired resolution of 1920x1200. I'm looking for thoughts on what the best graphics card setups are for this resolution.

I do want cost taken into account, so basically bang for buck and smoothness is a big must...no microstuttering for me please. Share your thoughts thanks.:)

EDIT - I should also mention that First Person Shooters are my passion and I want excellent performance across the board. No preference for either Nvidia or ATI and would consider the Crossfire X, Tri SLi combination.

GTX 280 maybe, although bang for your buck isn't that great w/ that. GTX 260/4870 heavily oc'd will probably be your best bang for the buck, as they get near 280 performance. Nvidia has a driver and physX edge atm, so I'd go w/ them. To be able to play everything at max though a 4870x2 may be better.

I have one, took my rig to a friend's house while he was house-sitting and played some games on the 37" 1920x samsung... *drool*
so worth it, but then I got mine for £320 so I'm chuffed! I still wouldn't turn it down at current £350 pricing though ;)

I say either a single 4870/260 or crossfire 4850's or SLI 8800GTS 512MB. That will get you plenty of power and a pretty low price.

I had a 3870 and it palyed everything quite well at 1920x1200.

personally id go with dual gtx260's or a single 4870x2 <- (favor it more tbh)

Don't forget about the 4870 1GB... though getting the 4870x2 might be a little less than twice the price.

Get 1 4870 now and another later for crossfire when prices drop.

Id go with this option, unless of course your budget allows a 4870x2. But i think everyone else has put that point across.

Agreed. That's what I'd put in for that resolution. A 4870x2 would be like candy coating!

My friend games at 1920x1080 with an e2180 and 8800GT w/ 4GB of RAM, and he can play TF2 and Bioshock at maximum without any stutters. Everything is overclocked except the video card, so you don't have to spend an exorbitant amount for good performance. In Bioshock the only thing he had to turn down was some higher post-processing effects, but he was also playing it on DX10. My vote is at least a 8800GT, probably a 4850/4870 would be best.

I am running that same rez and I went with crossfire 4850's. Works really well and was great for the price. Its faster than my friends 280 and cheaper....so yeah...thats what I would do.
But I do think if you were to OC a 4870 1gig that would work well too for a bit less.

two 4850's xfired, my two scream very similar to two 4870's xfired but cheaper and faster than a 280gtx.

I'll be looking to use an X48 board, not decided which one yet , but one that will accommadate a second 4870x2 in the future when I need to upgrade.

Price vs performance HD 4850 Crossfire, raw performance regardless of cost HD 4870 X2.

Here's a good article from [H]ard you may find useful-

http://www.hardocp.com/article.html?art=MTU1OCwsLGhlbnRodXNpYXN0

ehhh.. i was not happy with my 4850 crossfire results... great cards don't get me wrong... but i had to change bios to get acceptable temps... and i was having alot of driver issues running windows vista.. it was a nightmare!

dropped em both and picked up a gtx260 and have never been happier.. i'm so happy i'll be picking up a 2nd gtx 260 with my next paycheck :)

i would like to add if you love crysis... i suggest some gtx260/280 SLi
