Beware of GeForce Driver 385.69

After installing the latest GeForce 385.69 WHQL driver on my system (powered by a GeForce GTX 970, clean installation after cleanup, default settings), I noticed a significant performance drop in a few applications/games - such as 3DMark. After hours of struggling, I found out there is something wrong with the driver and its power management. The card will not use 3D clocks with turbo boost in some apps, UNLESS power management is manually set to "prefer maximum performance" in the control panel.

3DMark Fire Strike
Optimal power (default): 7316
Adaptive: 7319
Prefer maximum performance: 11132

If you use 385.69 and GTX 900 series, make sure to check out you are not affected by this bug.

They also suck for the 10xx series. At least for PUBG, crashing has been a lot more common for me.

980Ti here, i tried to run ROG benchmark this morning and the PC has rebooted, guess this might be the problem. Will try to install an older version tonight to see if this was the problem.

Another user posted here today I believe that they're having issues with the driver installation wizard from Nvidia. Specifically there's no text in the installation wizard's window

It may not be related but it just seems odd that people are starting to report issues with current Nvidia drivers

Actually I did have stutter on my LP rig yesterday... i did enable performance profile too and it fixed it... just thought a Windows CPU governor bug on older arch.

Anyone have any issues with PoE? Buddy of mine is having performance issues after upgrading to latest drivers and he thought it was his CPU.

Had a bit of pickle with my Gsync monitor, where it wouldn't register refresh rates higher than 100 (my panel supports up to 200), the windows screen options menu had them listed and activate-able, yet the NVCP didn't, had to reset EDID for it to register the refresh rates again, worked fine afterwards

I reinstalled TW; Warhammer, had old drivers 382.xx, the game launcher cried to update the drivers, so i did. Will rollback if it turns out to be a "defective" driver

If you have an Nvidia that is 2 years or older don't bother updating drivers, once you have a good driver that works for you stick with it.
