thanks for the link

it has the same "flash" of something at 1:57 also
im pretty sure my card is ok now but i now notice bugs and glitches everywhere cause i keep looking for them when i really shouldn't

Me too f0d , like in crysis :D or Metro 2033 some weapon or item flash, no problem on dx9 game ^^ definitely driver issue.

4850 to 5850 was win.
5850 to 6950 is fail.

Pound for pound the 6950 is trash man IMO as is the rest of the series.

Because the jump up from 4850 to 5850 was a jump to a completely new architecture on a smaller process. The 6900 cards build on what was learned with the 5800 cards while introducing a few new elements to the mix. 4850 also used slow GDDR3 memory which hindered it's performance potential so that would have contributed somewhat to the performance increase, too. Still, I wouldn't call a 20-25% performance increase a bad thing. It's the same increase nVidia is claiming for the Fermi revision cards.

http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/2010/12/16/ati-radeon-hd-6950-review/9

The increase in performance between the 9700 and 9800 was also subtle and the 9600 actually underperformed the 9500 in most tests but when the x800 came out it was a massive increase and that's what 28nm is going to be. Did you really expect a doubling of performance while the 40nm process was still being used? 6800 was able to get that increase because they moved the 256 bit memory controller downmarket along with the essential parts of the 5800 architecture and raised clock speeds. 6900 doesn't have a higher end card to inherit any parts from.

SO my turn, have you this kind of issue on BBC2 ? i have it in Dx9 , 10 , 11 crossfire and single ...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VMQsufkzKEY

Edit : on Crysis (some weapons on the floor, like the magazine disapear or the red dot ) , on Metro 2033 too :'( i have only use the 6950 unlock shader since i have my 2 6950 @ 840 Gpu and 1325 Memory, i have this bug on stock too :s

that would be a BUG with the game not the gpu its from the games LOD distances and texture loading hard to explain but basically the game cant make up its mind what your GPU is suppose to be displaying so it screws up, nothing different drivers wont fix. I had the above issues in your video on 10.3 10.5 and 10.6 ended up having to run 10.4a as per the usual for BC2 to run properly. Also had the issue with the 6900s but 10.12a fixed that for me

Since i've switched to 6950 unlocked shaders bios, i've a strange issue/artefact in unigine heaven when i set 880/1325 with 1.175v in afterburner :

This glitch doesn't appear with a 6970 bios (same setting : 880/1325). Maybe voltage on my shaders-unlocked 6950 isn't changing at all with afterburner

Edit : Solved, Proper configuration entry in afterburner cfg for a sapphire 6950 shaders unlocked is : VDDC_VT1556_Defaults = 9A 51 9B 80.

5000 series vs. 6000 series

Hi folks,

Long time lurker and newbie. I was motivated to post by another poster's unfounded opinion that the 6000 series is "trash" - even though they apparently do not own one. I own a 5870 mobile series card paired with an I7 and bought a 6950 and installed it in an old computer with an X38 board, 8 gigs of DDR2 and a Q9550. The 6950 utterly destroys my 5870 series card. Granted it's a mobile, but for the price and performance the 6950/6970s are an excellent investment - the best video cards I've used and one of the best price/performance jumps I've seen since the mid-1990s. The 6950 doesn't break a sweat on maxed games that xfired 3870s choked on, on much lower settings - and runs cool doing it.

yea.. the mobile 5870 = desktop 5770 its a directly the same just compare the specs

5870 mobile is 800 shaders 5870 discrete is a desktop 5870 is roughly double what your laptops gpu is and its clocked higher so the difference is even larger.

Yes, I realize it's not a true 5870, which is why I pointed out it is the mobile version - but the 5770 was most often compared to the other poster's card (a 5850) when they came out- albeit a small step down from it as well. Nonetheless - the difference between tests of a dedicated 5850 and the 6950 are dramatic, even without unlocking it. When one considers the dual bios, 2 GB, and other advantages, it is quite dramatic.

My point in bringing up the mobile 5870 was more to demonstrate that I actually own a card from both series. The 5000 series reviews vs. price/performance comparisons were impressive when they came out, but did not (for me), justify buying a dedicated one. The 6870 was close for me, and the eventual stats on the 6900 series vs. price/performance made the decision an easy one. Calling them trash is more than a bit of a stretch, IMO.

Guess what , i have done a fresh install of win7 , installed lasted drivers with catalyst 10.12, not the hot fix one, bug remain , on 6950 and my 2600xt , i read on forum it's could be CCC, so i have unistaled CCC, and guess what ?

No Bug Now , so CCC is A piece of shit !

Does anyone know a program i could use to enabled my crossfire without CCC ?

See I don't care. I don't care if they have to rape the last unicorn I want a faster video card. Unless its like going from a 4850 to a 5850 in pound for pound performance then its shit and not worth another 300 bucks.

When playing wolfentein with my sapphire 6950 with unlocked shaders, I noticed some weird snow flakes/dust particles floating and in some cases, things suddenly dissapearing, for example chairs o whatever that in one instant are there and in the other, they dissapear. I don't know if these issues are driver related or if the enabled extra shaders are causing the trouble.

Could be defective shaders in at least some of the 6950's. That is why the 6950 was created after all, so AMD can profitably dispose of their defective 6970 parts.

Have you OC your card ? I have this issue too when i oc the memory, but not with the 6970 bios.

i just tried the game to see if it was a driver issue or not and i had no artifacts that i could see on the level i was on

was it a specific level? or all of them? any specific setting?
i will try and test some more and see if there are any artifacts but i havnt seen any yet

have you tried it with the standard bios? flick the bios switch over and see if it does the same on a standard bios

We had the same artifacts on broken HD6950's. Have you ever used a HD6970 bios? Even for a few minutes?

we need a few people to test this again with virgin 6950's (never modded) or 6970's to see if anyone else has the same issue

every time i think my card is damaged with artifacts like this all sorts of people with 5850/70's and even sometimes nvidia cards say they have the same problem

i hope its the same with this

my settings

my video of similar artifacts (forgive the darkness - the video converter i use allways makes stuff dark)

I don't want to make panic, but this threads starting to be like that:

1. Denial—"My card is fine, I've flashed it to HD6970."; "Everybody does that."

2. Anger—"Why me? It's not ok to have an artifacts!"; "How can this happen to me?"; "Who is to blame?"

3. Bargaining—"It's driver related."; "It's the bug in CCC."; "I will flash it back to HD6950 and everything will be ok.";
every time i think my card is damaged with artifacts like this all sorts of people with 5850/70's and even sometimes nvidia cards say they have the same problem
4. Depression—"I'm so sad, 300$ paperweight card?"; "It's ok, I'll RMA this one. Maybe they will fix it"; "I feel so bad. I'm gonna be sick."

5. Acceptance—"It's going to be okay."; "The artifacts are small and hard to see.";
only when you set AA they are litlle green/white dot that appears on tree , but without AA no problem at all !

PS. This is a Kübler-Ross model.
