I went the the BFG website and they have the specs on the 6600Gt card as a 128MB card--is that to say in reality that the 7300GT card with 512MB is actually like a 128MB card. If GPU is the main factor then where does the difference in the RAM have an impact?

Also, the 7600GT card has 600 million vertices, 1250MHz clock and 40MB/sec bandwidth
while the 6800GT has 555 million vertices, 1000MHz clock time and 32 GB/sec bandwidth---you say that these are pretty comparable to each other---is that still your conclusion when you look at the specs I just listed?---Don't know much about it---just asking--thanks.

1) the GPU does the work and the RAM would be the place where that work is being done, so more or less 128mb-1024x720, 256mb-1280x1024, 512mb-1680x1050, 1024mb-1920x1200, as i said MORE OR LESS, im not going to write all the resolutions!, but we are not talking about new VGAs here so if it has more than 256mb i think its ok, 128mb its too low.

2)about the comparison, its more important the architecture of the card, rather than those numbers. i have a 8800GTS and a HD4870, 96 vs 800 shaders, 64GB/Sec vs 115GB/Sec, 12000 M Texels/Sec vs 30000 M Texels/Sec. If you look only at those numbers, then the HD4870 should run like 10 times faster than the 8800, but it dont. They are completely different architectures, and in the case of the 7600GT vs 6800GT the difference in all the specs is marginal. The only thing that should care you about are games, thats where you see which one is faster.

Also why we are even talking about 7600GTs and 6800GTs:confused:, there are better cards out there for AGP. I feel like i have traveled in time.:D

You can compare it to an extent. Aside some minor optimizations to the Core the G70 is basically a evolved NV40 core, so all the more can you compare those spec-sheets.

Now between ati and nvidia it might be harder to compare but first of all the "800 Shaders" of Ati are in fact more of like 160 5D-Shaders. Look at the specs again now and consider clock diffrences and the arcitecture the Performance actually kind of adds up. The HD4870 is about 1,5+ times faster in certain games.

6800GTs are great! also if you can find a 6800 ultra with the dual power plugins then that was a beast!

I'll probably be a bit harsh now, but...

Since neither of them won't be good for anything other than 2D, I'd choose the one with the lowest power consumption -> 7300GT.

If the purpose is to play 6 year-old 3D games, then the 6800GT is the best, but it'll still be less performance worth than the power it's consuming.

My interest is not in gaming at all but trying to determine which card would be best for streaming video and outputting it to a TV.

That will be a 4650/4670 hands down.

Then the 7300 is better, but according to nvidia both 7300 and 6800 HD encoder only output signal up to 1080i, if 1080p is a must then you have a problem

• Integrated HDTV encoder provides analog TV-output (Component/Composite/S-Video) up to 1080i resolution

any ATI 2000, 3000, (AGP) series as they have video and audio signal trough HDMI should be better than those two cards

I know its harder to compare this to that and that those sahders might be comparable to this but not to that, that was my point, im just trying to let the OP know (without writing something too long and boring) that he wont be able to know wich card is faster just by those stats, performance in games is what i look for when i compare two video cards, but thats me:p

What make are these and is there a website you can link me to?

What is the difference between the 4650 and the 4670/

GPU core speed, Memory speed, and memory type DDR2 for the 4650 and GDDR3 for the 4670, although there are some 4650 with GDDR3

Just as a comparison:
I had my integrated graphic card geforce 6100 256 mb and it ran like crap against my friends agp ATI 9250 se 128mb. First thing is that the agp slot is half fast as pci express 1.0. So you should not see the charts of latest graphic cards, only those who are agp versions. I recommend 7300 gt if the pourpose is not for gaming and an important thing is that you have a 300W power supply, which takes you to a more secure buy with 7300 gt. I have 7600gs card and it runs pretty good even if some claim that my version is worse than 7600gt, so it depends on technology being used. If the 7300gt or 6800gt oc are made with latest technology, i think they will run much better than expected. All I recommend is to go with 7300gt and you didnt tell the price of 6800gt oc just to make a comparison of prices
