Big Surprise for Top AI Brainiacs: NVIDIA CEO Gives World’s Top AI Researchers First NVIDIA Tesla V100s

AI is reshaping the world. The researchers gathered at this week’s Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition conference in Honolulu are reshaping AI.

That’s why NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang chose to light up a meetup of elite deep learning researchers at CVPR to unveil the NVIDIA Tesla V100, our latest GPU, based on our Volta architecture, by presenting it to 15 participants in our NVIDIA AI Labs program.

We won't likely see them. Volta is all about AI, those 640 Tensor Cores will be absent on consumer versions, making the chip nothing more than Pascal. That's where the rumour came from about the next NV card being a Pascal refinement. What makes Volta special is it's AI component for deep neural learning, something gamers will not need.

I wouldn't be surprised to see GP202/204 (or GP112/114).

Of course, it's just impressive they have such a large (815mm2) and complex chip in the hands of researchers already, it's DP rate alone is faster than my 980 Ti!

Strip away everything not relevant to gaming and replace it with stuff that is..... beast!

Whether a refreshed Pascal will come before hand, maybe... but the first gen stuff hasn't got competition yet.

More like deep learning rate. Training that used to take 5 minutes on a P100 is probably going to take 3 minutes on a V100. They can reasonably create more layers now, more specificity.
