I was wondering is there away to auto flash my bios by a boot disk or something. I flashed my x1800xt to a PE bios and it won't start correctly. I cannot read my command line and cannot flash in safemode. I did save a copy of my bios is there some way it fix this or is it ruined I have a Sapphire x1800xt 256 ddr.

I believe I got this from here somewhere...for sure....and it works.
Quote:
"Instead of relying on the availability of a PCI gfx card in the event of a bad flash, flashers should create a bootable floppy that will automatically (through 'autoexec.bat') reflash the bum card to the original BIOS, as follows:

1. Create bootable floppy
2. Copy FLASH program to the floppy
3. Boot to floppy, use flash program to create backup image of BIOS (follow instructions with flash program) OR use a Windows-based BIOS dump such as ATi Tool
4. Create a new file on floppy using a text editor, and name it "autoexec.bat"
5. Open autoexec.bat and enter on the first line, the flash command to restore your old BIOS (for example, 'atiflash -p 0 -f backup.bin'), save & close
6. Label this floppy and set it aside. . .if you ever mess up a flash, pop it in, reboot, and your old bios will be restored auto-magically!"

Hope It helps. :)

I cut copied and pasted the names of the file to this atiflash -f -p 0 bios.bin to the command line. Then I renamed the file to bios.bin I also tried renaming it simple names. However it starts to autoexecute but gives me bad command or file name error. Not sure why. Im using a agp card now in my board but it won't boot with my pci express card in it I wonder if i buy a pci card if it would boot then so I could flash it with winflash. I can sort of see my commanf prop so I tried to blind type it in to flash it but cannot get it to work.

try using flashrom. also at dos prompt type dir, this will list all files on the floppy, and more importantly, it will show if dos is altering the bios filename for some reason. dos usually does this if the characters in the filename exceed 8.

Sorry if this has been suggested, but make sure you remove the drivers completely through the uninstall program. If it will not let you install them then, make sure the chipset drivers are properly installed. I've heard of nVidia nForce drivers becoming "broken" (mostly having to do with the AGP GART drivers) when they were installed. If they do not work then, try to update the drivers through the Device Manager and point the installer to the right directory on your hard drive. That's about all I can suggest. Maybe somehow the device ID got messed up and it's not recognized now?

I think the card is damaged

tried a format and full reinstall after reflashing my own bios, and I get an error message saying the driver are not installed, try a standard vga driver. Im not sure what happened but it just will not install drivers to this card. It identifies the card as a 1800 series card but acts like it doesn't know what card it is to install the drivers. My agp card works fine as well as the cheepy pci card I bought to reflash. The card must be damaged in some way. stranger still after my first working bios flash I fashed it with at Sapphire x1800gto bios and it worked fine as a gto however after reflashing with winflash and my saved rom image it started this crap. Does anyone know can you use atiflash to flash a rom image in dos, and if so whats the command line to use.

Okay finally totally fixed. Heres how I did it incase *****anyother bonehead***** tries what I tried. You have to flash with a rom image not a bin file in atiflash in dos. If you don't and flash with atiwinflash in windows it won't work correctly and it acts like the bios is locked and will not accept drivers. There was a guy begging for a x1800xt bios from Msi and I believe he was really having the same trouble I was having. If anyone know him tell him to flash his card in dos with a rom image using Atiflash and not to try it with a bin file or in windows with atiwinflash. Thx to all who helped I won't do something stupid like that again. Also i want to say this is a great forum and seems to have alot of people trying to help so keep it up and thx.
