BIOS Repair info online.

Ok here is some links for when some of you have the BAD FLASH Yuck I hate them too.Good news is there is a way to fix them using a Host computer.Just read these four links and maybe like someone said in a other post get this stickies. Some cool tech stuff guys.

For info on SPI interface
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serial_Peripheral_Interface_Bus

Ok so some tech info input and understanding what SPI is check these sites out

http://superuser.com/questions/29221/how-to-recover-from-failed-bios-update

http://www.bios-repair.co.uk/

DFI is selling this to user`s,New product this year :) Richard Burke sells the same thing .

http://lp.lanparty.com.tw/portal/CM/cmproduct/XX_cmproddetail/XX_WbProdsWindow?action=e&windowstate=normal&mode=view

A few lines from the manual......See 100%

The BIOSecure Programmer is a device that serves as an SPI writer allowing you to flash BIOS (to the system board) from another computer that has the updated or correct BIOS file. This technology provides 100% BIOS protection and 100% recovery of a crashed BIOS. Before flashing the BIOS, you need to:
1. Connect the BIOSecure Programmer.
2. Install the SPI-Link driver.
3. Install the SPI-Link application.

I`m not sure how many motherboards support SPI,I should hunt down all the manufacture`s boards and pics to make a list so far I know one of mine does
ASUS M3A32MVP-Deluxe Maybe if you could reply with what board you have and see if you have the SPI_j1 Or just SPI .The jack is usually around the BIOS chip itself.Hope this post helps some you guys out,I might look at one of my old USB PCI cards to see if it can made to a SPI cable like Richard sells I`m cheap and would like the challenge of making one.:rockout:

thanks , but you can blind flash a bricked mobo you know ?Only thing you need a floppy /flash program and flash file .

3dsage you should have crash free bios from asus at mobo cd ,use it.
"The ASUS CrashFree BIOS 3 allows users to restore corrupted BIOS data from a USB flash disk containing the BIOS file. This utility saves users the cost and hassle of buying a replacement BIOS chip."
hopefully I will be getting one of these to revive my P5E3.

Jagd none of that stuff works after the bios itself is corrupted with the bad flash,The SPI port is just to power the bios chip itself and is also the port most board makers use when you send it back. And the sites that say Hey buy this bios chip with flashed so and so ...please read the wiki link with the spi port being used to flash the laptop back from bios death please.;)

That works with videocards yes. Not with motherboards as a bricked motherboard will not POST thus not attempt to boot any disk.

u can flash ur mobo bios using a floppy. cd-rom or bootable stick may not work. but I'd try with the bootable stick. it's easyer and everybody has a stick these days. u can use lotsa software for making the stick bootable. I use HP USB Disk storage format tool. then u copy ur bios, flash tool, and create an autoexec.bat file with a single line "AWDFLASH bios.BIN /py/sn/f/cc/r", all on ur new bootable stick. u start the mobo with the stick plugged in and see if the led on ur stick is working (blind mode, assuming ur bios is corrupted and u can't see anything on the screen). this means the bios can see the stick(try not to use a stick larger then 2G). if it is working let it finish reading from the stick and wait a bit more, for security reasons. good luck!

that only works if all the board slots are readable.
