As you may be aware, not all 8800GTs are compatible with motherboards with old VIA chipsets or with PCIE 1.0/1.0a. My Palit 8800GT Super + 1GB isn't, but others have made thier cards compatible in thier latest firmwares. A lot of people have solved this issue by flashing a different bios onto thier card then modifying the timings and fan settings. I'd love to do this but I need the BIOS off of a 1GB card which is very hard to find as it's not in many of the databases and some companies like MSI have a live update service so you can't just download the BIOS straight off thier site.

As far as I know, XFX, EVGA and MSI have all fixed the issue in thier latest firmwares, and they have 1GB cards... so if somone with one of said cards would be able to make a copy of the bios on thier card with nibitor, and give me a shout, I'd appreciate it. Or you could be a good samaritan and submit it to techpowerup's database.

I would perfer a card that is not factory OCed (so 600MHz core/1800MHz mem) but I should be able to get things going even with an OCed bios if I edit some settings. Again, it must be a version with 1GB of memory and have the latest bios version.

I would really appreciate it if somone could help me out, because I'm not going to buy a new motherboard as that would mean I would have to buy a new CPU and RAM in my case which just isn't going to happen. I have spent weeks researching and working on this issue and Palit technical support has so far been painfully slow. I have been waiting for 2 weeks for a bios from them. It's been 24 days since I got the card and it still isn't working. Jesus, I am so fed up with this right now.

Well we do have a Palit representative (Palit_Guy) whom may be able to help you, he's a cool guy and has proven very helpful in many situations here on TPU. See if you can locate and PM him.

Also you should fill out your System Specs in UserCP and make sure to "Allow to Show" the system specs at the top, very helpful, even if you don't feel so that we can see what you're running for a build. And lastly, welcome to TPU, hopefully we can getcha sorted! I know there are a few users on here have that very card and may just be able to help you.

Thank you. I've updated my system specs. I am positive this is the problem, but I suppose it may help others who have the same hardware and may be considering getting this graphics card. I spent considerable time lurking this and other tech-related forums, especially in the last month and I have noticed Palit_Guy before. I don't specifically need a Palit bios though, in fact I don't think they have this problem solved yet. I think any updated bios from a 1Gb 8800GT from XFX, EVGA or MSI (or any other manufacturer that solved the problem) should work in theory.

Yeah, thanks... I checked those... :/ Unfortunately the Nvidia and MSI Bioses are too old, since before the fix and there is no 1gb XFX or EVGA bios. The bios version I need has to be at least 62.92.24.XX.XX (at least that's when EVGA implemented thier fix)

The Palit ones wouldn't work because Palit never got around to fixing the issue. I don't think any of the other brands left on the list have fixed the issue either. I risked the ASUS one but it didn't help. It allowed my system to post but I still got extreme graphical artifacts even when adjusting the memmory timings, same thing I got when trying 512mb fixed EVGA bioses. Before I changed the bios to a fixed one, my system would not detect the graphics card at all.

So the solutions still seems to be: Wait X number more weeks until Palit sends me a new bios or track down an updated 1gb bios from those companies. Asus is never going to update the bios for my motherboard, I think they ditched it long ago.

I heard back from Palit and they finally sent me a bios after about 20 days. I won't try it out until tommorrow, but here it is in the meantime. I hope the next person with this problem can benefit from my experience.
