Exactly. BIOS’s aren’t like drivers that need updating. Unless the manufacturer specifically recommend a BIOS update there is absolutely no reason to do so.

Where do people get this wisdom, I really do wonder... why on earth fiddle with GPU BIOS especially on Pascal where you are voltage *and* temp limited anyway.

Its actually officially documented you can't extract more performance.

Why would one update the BIOS on a video card anyway? Like the others said it's dangerous to do. Could brick it making it unusable

I'll field that question.
Competitive extreme benchers will, because there is more to the bios than just voltage and fan profiles. Vram tuning is also available. This sometimes yields a few more points in bench. Everybody knows a couple points makes the difference between winning and losing a contest. Benchers aren't afraid to flash and usually know the risk. Fortunately, most are not in over their head.
Average Joe Gamer?,......... no reason to flash because there is no gain. Also no reason to be in over their head. Most could not recover it if they screwed it up anyway.

From others on this very forum. :(
No, from the past.

TPU was once a bios modding mecca. Once upon a time we even hosted tools for it. You COULD extract more performance, etc with another modded bios.

Unfortunately that ended completely with Pascal and co. No one is advising it anymore, short of some rare mining threads.

I know for a fact you can flash higher clocked and higher TDP BIOS on laptop MXM modules (people have managed to get the MSI 1070 MXM module up to 230+ up from a stock 150W and it scores around 25K firestrike) but this is only possible with an external flasher/correct vbios and isn't necessary for a desktop GPU at all

You can even do it on some select Pascal Desktop GPUs but I didn't think we were talking hardware flashers since no one is going to "accidentally" do that.

And no, not recommended.

This manifests itself when the explorer is deployed, the browser in the form of slowing down. But sometimes everything works fine. Why is it so?
