I'm wondering who is playing this and how do you like it?

I've been waiting for this NA release for several years now and so far it has lived up to all of my expectations; cash shop aside.

I'm currently playing on the Edan server. My family name is Croaker if anyone else plays on that server hit me up a friend request.

https://www.blackdesertonline.com/

Free to play once you buy the game. There are different packages available but the base game is $30 which is a crazy good deal considering everything this game has to offer. This game not only looks beautiful, but it has a wicked awesome combat system (nothing new here but done very well) and so much to do that it is a bit overwhelming.

If you haven't played it yet, do yourself a favor and give it a shot. There is more content here than just about any other game I've played and for $30 you get your monies worth for sure.

I played it on the russian server. There is so much eye candy in this game, and i do believe if you play it at the same time with a friend it can be very fun. However by myself.....it was sad. It's an mmo. I had to back-track quests and farm. Nothing else !

I have a guest pass to try it out, but just couldn't get time this weekend: She made an account and wasn't too fond of it. The interface was a bit confusing I think, but then She and I are both looking for a WoW replacement, and I don't know that we'll ever find one. I hope to make time this Friday to hook up0 the guest pass and give it a swing.

Guys this MMO has so much to offer. There is so much to do that it boggles the mind. Well my mind anyway. There are plenty of quality guides to read to get your feet wet before playing too. Lets face it. If you love WOW and you have been playing it for years...nothing will ever take it's place. Even if they released WOW2 people would still play WOW1 instead. World of Warcraft is a beast of it's own.

Black Desert is more like Skyrim in a way but so much more. It is what ESO should have been but failed at.

Is the download big? I am not opposed to a $40 or $50 game, but I was really let down by ESO and got to lvl15 or so. Now I have really been enjoying PoE and the occasional D3 fix. Any comparison?

The game costs $30 and the download is 35GB +

I can only comment on ESO and that game was only ok. It couldn't hold my attention anyway.

Uno server, the family Disparia.

I've never played Eve Online, but I see the comparison made all the time since a good portion of the game is commerce. At the personal level you'll craft and trade to make money. At the group level there are guild wars to fight over resources, or there will be once guilds become more established with funds and well-geared players. There is also open sparring, hunting, fishing, with other activities to be released soon like arenas and world bosses (already available in KOR, JP, RU, but not in EU/NA yet).

Fighting mobs is like Diablo with action combat and large number of mobs (compared to tab-targetted and fewer mobs). It's a good mix since you can spend an hour grinding mobs like you would with a dungeon crawler, then go off and do one of a dozen other activities like an MMORPG.

Probably has the steepest learning curve I've ever encountered with an MMO. It's not necessarily a bad thing, just that most other games are designed around "the game" and "time sinks" so I've been conditioned to blast through time sinks to get to "the game". In Black Desert however, you need to realized that everything you do is "the game" as it's all interconnected.

-edit-

To add: I don't think the mechanics are difficult, but the UI is not what we're used to in the states. It's less-than-intuitive nature is what will frustrate new players the most. Once you get familiar with it you start having a lot more fun.

This game is AMAZING! I spent almost all my spare time over the last week in it, and it remains amazing despite the ridiculous localization, general lack of polish, and peculiar graphics engine ^^

I played ESO, but lost interest before level 20....

I am liking what I am seeing with this game, but at the same time am hesitant.....

So 30 dollars for the game now? Will there be monthly fees? How much is the game pay 2 win? What is the max level? Any comparison to the game Archeage?

There are 2 Bundles right now, one for 30 and one for 50$ or €. For now there aren't any pay2win items in the cash shop, only skins, pets, mount skins, furniture and some item for skill reset. As the Western Ceo said, the NA/EU version will not be a pay2win game as the Korean version. A 2nd payment option for some items are Loyaltiepoints which you gain ingame. The Levelcap should be 55 for now

I like the large game mechanics, crafting system and the pretty detailed world design. 2 more Regions (Media and Velencia) and Classes will be added later this year.

One tipp. do NOT rush with leveling

If anyone wants i have 2 7Day Keys left.

Cool... Thanks for the info. - Is it worth it to buy the 50$ package?

I just watched a video of some of the games positives, which seem like just refined ideas from games I played before.... WoW, KoTR, Archeage, GW2, ESO... Regardless, I think im going to give this game a shot.

There are NA servers right?

The only questionable P2W option is really a convenience thing: pets that pick up your loot for you.... The time spent looting all the mobs is a nightmare, and having 2 (3 is best, since they're on a 10sec cooldown) pets to run around and loot the bodies whilst you keep farming/questing/grinding is really helpful....

Yeah, in theory, its not direct P2W, but more of a convenience thing as you mentioned. This is what really turned me off from Archeage, game was literally just pay 2 win, in most aspects.

I like how in this game they seem to be adding old concepts but adding refinements to them from multiple games.... I like the up front trading / gold system that discourages gold selling.... I think they are on the right track for sure.

I don't think the 50$ adds much value to be honest. The pet is useful for looting, but ain't worth 20 bucks. The horse is nice, but getting one by yourself is fun in itself, so I don't really count it. The extra skill resets might also be useful if you mess up your build, but you can also get those for loyalty points.
And yes, there are NA servers ^^

However I really don't see the game being that similar to any of those you've listed. And it's almost the polar opposite of WoW or ESO lol
I'd say leave your expectations at the door and go around exploring the world and the systems at your own pace. As long as you're not one of those players who plays MMOs strictly to fight mobs, level up asap, and collect gear; or looking specifically for instanced content, you'll be in for quite the treat ;)

I COMPLETELY, let me reiterate COMPLETELY agree with you on Archeage. I was really impressed with the extensive crafting options in Archeage in the beta, and then I saw how much they were crippling non-paying members, and I just ignored the game.

I agree that getting your horse on your own (not that hard to do, and there is a quest early on for a donkey) is much more satisfying. For the pets, really, you only have to spend $9 for one pet (note the emphasis on "only"), but for the next week, I see something about 20% off all pets... I may just have to go ahead and grab the game, and snag a pet or two on sale....

I was going to ask something very similar to this! Thanks lol....

I think im going to grab the 30$ package, do the quest for my horse within the game. I have no issues with that.

If I can buy pets for 9$ then I will just do that if needed.... seems like the more logical option.

Archeage really ticked me off in several ways..... to the point I stopped playing MMOs up until now.

I paid 150$ for early Alpha access for Archeage..... I stopped playing for about a week, when I came back to log in, somehow my account had been hacked. So I paid 150$ for early access, but didn't get to play during the early access at all.... I proceeded to send several emails to them to fix it.... and while they did FINALLY reinstate my account, it was 3 weeks later, but I missed the early access I paid for.... and they would not give me a refund. Also, Archeage had a real issue it seemed with balance of classes.... Cookie Cutter Cheese builds... (was also a big issue when I was big into 1v1 dueling in GW2)

I picked up the $50 package but it was pre-order with a few more perks at the time.

Probably better to get the $30 now and pick up some pearls at some point. When the shop opened up pets were 20% off, so with the $30 pearl package I was able to purchase two pets (I had one from the pre-order), a +8 to inventory, and lucky underwear. All my pets are level 10 now with two having a 4 second pickup-rate and another with 6 seconds -- in otherwords I don't pick up loot anymore. While quests will reward you with extra inventory slots you'll constantly feel constrained so getting that +8 was a biggie to me. Lucky underwear is of course, lucky!

I run with three pets. I'd not play this game without them. NEVER having to loot anything myself is priceless. I stand there killing mob after mob and that's all I have to worry about. Love it.
