Black screen of death W11

Randomly (not new sw install related) my laptop has developed a Black screen or death where the cursor moves fine but nothing else. The login screen appears but after that it's just black screen.

What I've done so far with zero luck :
-Task manager new task.. Explorer.exe
-ran sfc scannow and dism
-install latest drivers
-command to refresh gpu
-connected external monitor to laptop
-safe mode (same issue)
-created new user account with admin rights
-reseated ram and ssd
-removed last windows updates
-tried to find restore points

There's probably more ive done over the space of a couple days but I've forgotten.

Oh msedge.exe doesn't work. I guess there is a os problem.

If I ctrl alt del and run new task and type c: I can access everything. Even chrome even wifi.. Everything appears to be working this way.

I'm now at a loss and have no more ideas.

Reinstall Windows? Also please list laptop model/specs

I just ordered a few hours ago a lenovo laptop. I read, a few hours ago, on the web that this type has issues with certain "software" version of the lenovo hardware itself = firmware = uefi from that laptop.
For that issue i de3cribed the workaround was to downgrade the uefi

You may check if you run stable firmware for all hardware, good cables, and good working drivers first.

you may give us more data. "randomly" usually has some chain of events.

my windows 11 pro 24h2 needs certain version of software for certain hardware to work properly. The main reason why I try to use offline installers in c:\software. The main reason why I pause updates and use the monthly windows "offline" package only(which for the last two times still needs a working internet connection to start the update).

Boot into safe mode and see what happens. If it boots up like normal then there is a software issue. Maybe something you installed or messed with doesnt sit quite right with it.

Id suggest trying out the fresh windows install though. If youve been running your installation for a fair amount of time. It could be the perfect time for a refresh.

If your DELL has a backed up image of the OS located on a recovery partition. Back all your data up and let the rescue tool reimage your laptop

Also disable automatic BIOS updates coming through Windows, either in BIOS or in Windows (never tried the latter).

This FEATURE has caused a lot of problems, essentially bricking laptops. Edit: Desktops as well, I guess.

I mentioned this already, safe mode option boots like normal and everything is the same. Black screen after login. No backed up images either.

Windows 11 repair (not sfc) is not possible is it? Without one's programs all uninstalled

don't use bloat-full OEM windows install. You probably don't need "trial software like antivirus or kindda cloud BS etc.". All this OEM crap works in background services and utilize your precious hardware resources.
Get a 8 gb+ usb stick, google for "windows media creation tool" and let it download windows image and make bootable windows usb stick for you. then boot from that usb via F12 key before startup, or select it in BIOS, you will get into bios by F2 or Delete key before startup, just stroke the key right after power button until you will get the result, with bootable usb inserted.

I have already, not wanting to do a fresh install though, looking to try repair this. I can access everything by start new task then C:. It's irritating that it's just the screen /desktop that's black! I feel it's a simple issue

Which options do you have when you do not want to do a reinstall? and you are unable to fix your installation? maybe put everything into e-waste?

This drove me crazy. There is something wrong with Windows 11. I have Epic. Tried to do what I always do, download the Epic installer and run it. After 80+ % the installation would fail. So I asked Co Pilot how to install Epic. It told me to go to the MS Store and get the Epic installer there. Then it worked. Now we have the updated Pictures connected to the Internet and every other time it updates I get a black screen.

Who says it's unable to be fixed? Many people with this issue fix it. Whether that's by starting Explorer.exe or opening msedge.exe. Theres all different fixes. Perhaps there is another fix I didn't try yet that will fix my issue.
