every time i install windows updates and reboot i get a black screen with the mouse and nothing else.

i cannot get into safemode either. it does the same thing. black screen with mouse.

i have to boot from the install dvd and run system restore to get it back to the desktop.

i have tried to figure out which update thats doing it and have had no success.

any idea what to do?

Is windows upgrading any drivers or is it installing that new genuine tool. Its supposidly hard on the system and can cause problems.

my laptop goes to login, i enter my password. and sometimes it takes 2-3 mins with a black screen and a mouse till the desktop finally loads. If you have waited longer than this, then it could be the black screen of death.

There is a fix for it i just have to find it

the first post there "may" work but i have my doubts. you should be able to make a txt file there by booting repair mode off the windows install disk.

Im skepticle about updating the windows updates i got at the bottom of my screen now.

Boot from the DVD, it should give the ability to do a system restore from there.

Then install each update one at a time, rebooting after each one, even if it doesn't require it until you find the one that causes the problem.

cant. says it cannot find the OS partition

but

somehow it trys to boot to windows so there is a MBR there.

i have tried to repair the MBR and it says it has repaired it but i still cant see the old install from the dvd at all.
