I have a strange problem i would like to adress to TPU.
Yesterday after a long gaming session, my screen blacked out while my PC still was working, i could hear sound an everything.

So i hard restarted my PC, and i got 1 long 3 short beeps, and no boot.
After searching Asus for beep codes i found out it has to do with faulty GPU.
My next step was removing the side panel of the case and trying to boot again which it was a sucsess, but i got a little scared about this whole thing.
After boot i ran Unigine Heaven all night, and now this morning i got up and PC was still looping the benchmark with my GPU running around 65 - 67C which is ok.

Now im confused and cant quite figure out what could be the problem.

better start saving for new psu.
it will start happen more and more offten till at the end you wont be able to game at all.
had same problem with 7970 dual X and cooler master 1kw psu. it turned out psu has trouble to support high power draws. it is running fine 4850 but cant power 350W card so i had to buy new psu for the pc with 7970

Assuming Windows, next time it happens, try Win+Ctrl+Shift+B. This is a keyboard shortcut to restart graphics drivers :)

Thanks for the advice, will try that.
I dont recall the driver crashing when getting black screen since there was no sound that a device has disconected.

how often do you get black screens.
next time it happens try turning off pc by holding power button and then start it again rather then using reset. check if you get faulty gpu beeps when you restart it this way.

If the sound keeps going but the monitor is showing blank, that is a situation where restarting the drivers should work. Black screen does not necessarily mean device was removed, just that something went wrong enough that drivers could not recover by themselves.

Ohoo absolutely yes.
still have both vga and psu. and it is still the same
vga works fine daily with evga g2 750w in last 2 or 3 years (beat me cant remember exactly) and psu is powering athlon 240 & hd4850 and has no problems running games that dont mind old hardware.
as soon as psu has to power 7970 or 290x from my specs even in athlon system black screen is back in its whole beauty.
and it all started with rare black screens from time to time till it became to the state to go black on windows loading screen. 4-5 times in row till it "catch up" and load the desktop. then as soon as game is started and vga "goes in 3d mod" it goes black again.
i dont mind to send you the psu to test it by yourself if you pay its one way ticket to you.

edit: found g2's order confirmation email

PSU should be easy enough to test. Just running Heaven might not do the trick as other pieces in the PC can and do take additional power, most notably CPU. Just run Prime95 alongside Heaven or Furmark and you have the worst case scenario. Couple of hours of that will quite conclusively let you know if power usage or temperatures pose a problem.

Benchmark Scores Meh benchmarks.

But it could be, although i think there are other measures to be taken first. Like cleaning out the PSU with some canned air, trying a new OS install of another HDD.

Isn't the CX the cheaper quility of the Corsair range ?.

Reseat the GFX.. Clean out the socket..
Reconnect power cables on mobo...
If it wasn't for the beeps I would simply assume it was driver related.

I had the same issue with an reference R9 290.
It started with random monitor turning off, no video signal. At the end, loading the driver gave me the issue.
I'm still using it and it only work with the release driver(Catalyst ) from November 2013. Lol
No problem with this driver. Any other driver won't load.
This issue was common with the reference R9 290.

Assuming Windows, next time it happens, try Win+Ctrl+Shift+B. This is a keyboard shortcut to restart graphics drivers :)
If I knew this before I could have more options. ..

Update:
I got it to stabilize with an update to 18.2.1.
Now i have no issues yet, rock solid system in gaming, playing PUBG like a champ.
I'm yet to close the side panel, since i think heat had something to do as well here, but I'm skeptical since my card is tuned to hit 65 to 67C and stay within that range.

Ill keep the windows command in mind for the drivers just in case the problem ocurs again.
PSU is about a year old, and i also ruled it out by taking it to my friends house and testing it on an i7 6700k oced to 4.5Ghz and a 1070, and it was working great there as well.

Look at the Windows logs in Event Viewer and you will find an Error at the the date / time of the b;lack screen. loot at the explanation and copy / paste it here or into ya browser search window for an answer. While there, I'd scroll thru the log and ook for explanations to any other errors or warnings.

And yes, when opportunity arises, replace the PSU ... he C in CX has been assumed to stand for "crappy"
