Randy Pitchford is an interesting character even as game company CEOs go, with a.. checkered history in the last few months that go from funny all the way to controversial at minimum. As the head of Gearbox, he holds a lot of power when it comes to the Borderlands franchise, which itself teased a third numbered entry to be revealed at PAX East later this month. His social media activity has been a prime example of what not to do as a CEO owing to some personal and professional issues alike, which meant that this latest tease not only got people looking at more about the Borderlands franchise, but also his twitter account.

Users dug up an old tweet from December 2018 wherein he claimed he was "excited to support the Epic Games Store", and this was enough to initiate concerns that Borderlands 3 might be an exclusive to the Epic Games Store on the PC platform. Subsequent replies did nothing to quell these concerns, although there was nothing to confirm anything either. This may all be making a mountain out of an imaginary molehill, but it makes sense for Epic Games to go after Borderlands 3 to get more customers on their side- especially knowing that such exclusivity deals could be in the millions of US dollars. We will know more when the game is officially announced, so keep an eye out for that.

As it is the EGS is not secure and need more work. Instead of pushing it they should just put some work into it and than think about be competitive and all that.
The only reason to use EGS is the free game you get every 2 weeks .

It will be another game I miss out on if it goes EPIC only. I don't care much for Uplay, but I have games that run through it. I'd much rather buy a game off Uplay than EPIC. I don't use Origin for anything other than picking up the free games they used to offer (they don't do that anymore so I haven't ran Origin for a good long while). Steam, I try to limit games that are co-op or online only games to Steam and everything else these days are GoG.

I enjoyed the first two Boarderland games (I didn't like the prequel much - the combat was decent enough, but the story was bland. I don't even know what happened in the story, to be honest. I could have gone without playing the prequel and I would have been content.

I definitely want a Borderlands 3 but only if it's as fun as B1 and B2. As far as Randy Pitchford is concerned......well, if he retired today then it wouldn't be soon enough.

I will absolutely get the game, Collector's Edition, in an instant, because I love the series. But if it will be EGS exclussive, I will sell the code and torrent the game itself till they get it on Steam.

Period.

If Borderlands 3 is going to be an Epic store exclusive I will pass it. I did buy all Borderlands games on Steam store and as consumer believe that we should have an option where to buy the game from. This exclusive bull**** is not funny any more, it's like one store would have exclusive rights to sell new drug or type of food. Epic with there low profit margin luring developers to sell latest games on crapy store with no support and other features not giving other options for players rather than wait a year or get cracked game and laugh in greedy Epic face.

Who cares about Steam if the game is good? Who would possibly miss a good game because you can't collect stupid steam achievements and childish badges and points. Steam steals money from developers with their astoundingly high fees while doing exactly nothing besides an overpriced webshop. Valve should get back to developing games instead of ripping off dev studios who actually work.

Another game to pass on.

My wallet certainly appreciates this exclusivity. If I can't access the games on my preferred platforms, I won't buy them.

It's nothing about the achievements. I do have Steam Link and love to stream games to PC witch i can't do with games on Epic store without moving my PC and using HDMI cable. If game on Epic store only it means I have to convince my friends to buy from it so we could play co-op.

Devs making proper profits without huge cuts by Steam is more important than your streaming issues, no offense. PC singleplayer games with a proper story and not multiplayer battle royale BS have become few and far inbetween, I'm grateful for every title. The whole Epic Store fiasco is overblown by a generation of entitled whiny manchildren

It's not just about that. It's more about the fact that Epic Game Store literally is a security risk.

Steam stealing money is just plain ridiculous! No one is forced to use Steam, there were a lot other platforms in the last few years, many of them perished with little if any trace left about it's existence. Most of them because developers didn't used them. The fact is, that even today, still Steam is the strongest and best platform you can choose. The most secure with the best available support of all the contestants.

You got it all wrong. And by putting a nicely exaggerated insult on the end of your argument, you just priced your whole opinion. Not to mention to your persona.

I understand. Millions of people enjoyed Metro Exodus and I didn't hear about any massive scandals with people getting their banking data stolen. Epic already promised to fix and add features to their store. I for one hate monopolies of any kind, I support Epic Store's endeavours, and there is no unwritten rule that humanity, from now on has to exclusively use Steam until the final days when the sun absorbs this planet

can they like put to all stores, and let steam customers pay the steam tax or something. If steam users really want to get the game on steam, they'd have to pay extra to cover the fees over other stores.

I personally like competition.... steam wasn't what it used to be before...

Well the fact that Metro was no cheaper for me on EGS makes the whole “better deals” thing moot.

Protips:

  1. Create Epic Games Account
  2. Download Epic Games Client
  3. Buy Borderlands 3
  4. Install Borderlands 3
  5. Launch Borderlands 3
  6. Play Borderlands 3
  7. Stop moaning about Epic Games Client

I was of the "hurr durr EGS bad" mentality until i downloaded the launcher and played Metro Exodus.

Please keep your arms and legs inside until the bandwagon has come to a complete stop, then you may exit.;)

I mean it'll be regular price on EGS, but Steam will have to cost 20% more because consumers will have to absorb that cost.

Steam does not have a monopoly, i don't know where you people get that idea from. They are simply a storefront. Publishers/Devs can make up to 80% if their game sells well. Borderlands 3 would EASILY make the 80/20% cut.

Don't forget that unless you are an asset flip developer, Steam will provide unlimited generated steam keys for free to sell in whichever other store they choose, Amazon, GMG, G2A, Humble Bundle, Gamersgate.. etc. They make 0$ on those keys that they provide.

Either way, no Steam, no buy. Simple as that.

I wouldn't even get the EGS if i Borderlands 3 was free on it.

Its gonna be a cheap year for me, no BL3, no Rage 2, no Doom Eternal... Games i have sunk hundreds of hours in their prequels.

Lol your loss then. Unless you decide to pirate the game illegally because, oh how could you possibly survive by launching it via EGS.

People really need to stop throwing their toys outta the pram because it ain't on steam. Big deal.

This is borderline Fanboyism.

Not exactly. Valve charges based on how many copies a game sells on Steam. From 20% to 30%. With a game like Borderlands 3 (if it's good) the rate would probably be 20%. Epic charges a flat rate of 12% right now so that means that it would cost 8% more for Gearbox to put it on Steam. That cuts into Gearbox's profit by about 5 million dollars per million units sold on Steam versus Epic Store. Still, that is a lot of profit lost by Gearbox but then you have to factor in lost sales because of the people that refuse to sign up for an Epic account and pirate the game when they can.

Until we know what the sales were for Exodus on the Epic Store it's hard to know.

Hahaha here we go again. I do wonder how deep Sweeney's coffers are.

This is what a marketplace looks like people, get used to it.

Whatever floats your boat! This is also the marketplace. Numbers will decide what's gonna happen. I think its interesting to see.

On a more personal note. I didn't buy Metro yet because the price of a key is still too high. Go figure. Steam keys are faster at dropping in price. That is my main motivator. If EGS cannot offer product cheaper, I have no reason to support them (and I'm not in a rush to play).

Oh noes. Game costs same as it would anyway.... So, no financial penalty. I need to download a free game manager. Free, you say? Oh noes.

Wtf is wrong with people?

Buy game.
Enjoy game.
Stop whining.

Edit: Did we mention it's a game? A game. It's not life saving. It's..... A...... Game. A toy. We're adults right.
