Boy thats a tight squeeze (GTX260)

Hi all,

After getting rid of my 8800GS I had the urge to play with something new so I bought myself a Leadtek GTX260 from OCUK yesterday. Of course I did this without double checking how long the card was. Now I knew it was long but seriously this thing is massive.

To give you an idea how massive this is it vs my old 8800GS and above it is my Novatech X80R gaming laptop:

Now for the big one will it fit in my case, well here is the answer:

YES!

**Now updated with a few crysis benchmarks:**

Scaling seems to be quite linear with the clock frequencies.

it just fits, they are a large card and i asume many people have been in your situation or even worse (it didnt fit), even if it didnt fit all you would of had to is chop out the bottom hdd bay

... enjoy the new card, you should be amazed at how much of am improvment you will see

Yep the performance difference should be very nice. Although I did only buy the GS as an interim card anyway.

If the card hadn't of fit I would have simply swaped the case with th JEantech Phong I used to have.

I just got my XFX GTX 260 in and I potentially have an EVGA GTX 280 coming as well (99% sure)...thank god for my Rocketfish Lian Li full tower, I'll have no problems fitting them.

My 9800GTX is i touching the hard drive just slightly touching cage, but if you get the right angle when fitting in, no problems with it, dont worry about it.

BTW, nice card, I hope you enjoy it!

Lol thanks - I just noticed that. I had to stand on the chair to get enough distance to get both cards in frame for the picture.

Quick update on crysis - Just been playing through the first section and 1680x1050 (no AA but 8xAF) everything bar motion blur on high (it makes me feel sick) its silky smooth (clocked at 650/1404/2100). Finally the annoying hitches I used to get plagues with when I had HD4850CF have gone and I can play the game without getting a headache after 5 minutes).

Does anyone know if the GTX260 will fit in the Thermaltake Lanbox Deluxe case?

I really want to try it but $300 is a bit much for something that might not work

I have the lanbox lite and my X1950 PRO / HD3850 / HD4850 (all same size) fit in it fine. They are about 5cm off the HDD cage.

IF the card is bigger, the HDD cage can simply be removed and the card can take up as much room as it wants. The only limitation to this is that you will need to put your HDD in the 3.5" external slot, so you only get one HDD and no 3.5" bays.

That wouldnt work for me as I have a RAID setup in mine.

For reference the card is ~27cm long.

At least the power connectors are on the side (if they were on the end they wouldn't fit in my case).

The shroud however (that covers the entire card) is also the full length of the card (unlike the 8800GTX where the shroud doesn't cover the entire card) this may be somthing that should be taken into consideration as whilst the overall length may fit the cards bulk may not.

Pretty much the same length as a 2900xt, and connectors on the side aren't all they're cracked up to be, either. I can barely get the side back on my case.

I planned on taking out the HDD cage im just worried the casing is gonna hit the external 3.5 drive

also the power connectors might be right below the edge of my 7'' drive bay i could cut a hole in that but id preffer not to

Just fixin to tidy up my cables, but look how much room a 9800GTX and a 280GTX use up, both are the same darn size! This is in my antec 1200, which is huge. I have to figure out how to route 4 pci-e cables and countless others....:

you think thats tight, ive had a 9800GTX and 8800GTX (currently) in an Antec Aria! (NSK 1380)

now THATS a squeeze.

pics to follow if i can be bothered, suffice to say, between the end of the card, and the whole FRONT of the case, you can fit one finger, but not two.
