so i bought a new sealed 1080 Ti Strix (non OC) from a local electronics shop (new old stock)

the card worked fine for 2 days and the final stable oc was +70 and + 300 on the memory.
after a few days i noticed crashes and artifacts in certain games.
i removed the memory oc and it worked again.

then i played remnant from the ashes with a friend for like 8 hours straight with no issues.
next morning i played rainbow six siege and it crashed within minutes.
dialed it back to+50 Mhz and it worked fine again.
the +50 wasn't stable the next day and it crashed at +30 as well.

then i started worrying about other parts, reseated it, checked the PSU (it's a 1KW Dark Power Pro 11 Platinum...) everything was fine.

+30 was stable and worked fine until yesterday where i had blue flashes on the screen and crashes in the evening.

this morning i dialed it down to stock and it worked fine again.

Now before i started writing this the card is not even stable at stock speeds and does not want to do anything demanding at all.
Timespy only runs when going down to -50 Mhz.

i RMA it but what's the problem that a chip degrades like it runs at 2 Volts?! temps are fine, new thermal paste, very decent high end PSU, everything else works fine (other cards are running fine as well)

Seems more like the GPU memory issue not the core, try with stock GPU memory and then rise just bit by bit.....also maybe is memory overheating check the temps...gl

It's difficult to say what is wrong. But it can be badly cooled VRM, MEMORY chips or a third thing. But one thing is sure, if it not even stable below it's promised clock. Then it is 100 a rma.

I have had a EVGA gtx 1080 TI for almost 3 years now and run overclock most of the time and it has worked flawless and no signs of degrating. Still holds same clock as for 3 years ago.

nothing overheats.. everything on the card is fine except the core itself.

VRM Temps are rated for 125°C (IR 3355) they are running in the low 70s
Memory does almost pull no power and is semi passive cooled by the heatspreader ontop of it.

and i am 100% sure that the memory does not overheat when i run the card for 2 seconds after a cold boot with a 20°C room temperature.

I'd still be thinking about the PSU, silicon doesn't degrade like that. I am inclined to believe it was something power related.

so three PSUs are all dying within a week and only with showing a reduction in clock speed on a GPU meanwhile all my other GPUs are working perfectly fine. I don't know, it's just strange. Graphics cards don't fail like that on their own, it's very atypical.

Are you sure it's new old stock and not a shelved return?

well it was completely sealed and sold as new. (the antistatic bag was never opened, the card had the plastic foils on it and the box was sealed with the original sticker.)

I'm asking because it happened to me with a motherboard a few years ago, big outlet too.
SOB's had put a returned board with a damaged SATA port back on the shelf after resealing it and sprucing up the box.
I got to know when I tried to register the mobo, it said someone else had already done it.
Damn cheek.

Was there not problem with these cards when they first came out, ie early batch of cards 'faulty memory'. I believe heat kill them in days. ..Someone please correct me if i am wrong.

Can't see it after 2 days use. Prolonged gaming perhaps. Could be wrong though.

There was a thread on this on cards dying fast within days. I can't remember if it is related to this card, this is why i need someone to confirm or correct me on this.

If you can't get an answer here, Asus ROG forums are your next best bet.
Never had a card go belly up on me after 2 days use, ever. And I've owned many brands and models.
Can you return it to the store? I know I would.

I had to rma a 5700XT XFX unit 3 times, and it was new, and did the artifacting thing, one didnt work right out of the box, 2nd worked for about 2 weeks, then artifacting like mad, till one day, POOF, nada. So far my 4th card Im on has been holding up. But yeah, Ive had more luck buying someones old card from a few years ago, then I have had buying something new. Need to RMA it like others said, and just because it is old doesnt matter, just register it with manufacture, give serial, show reciept, its still covered and they got to give you same, or even newer card that matches performance, so there is a chance, if they dont have any to give you, you may walk away with a 2080 (super/Ti) instead.

Because of my troubles, I will not buy another new card, and will wait for about a year or so to buy a used, so I dont end up with someone problem child, for I could of bought a 5700xt used for a little more, but since the card was so new at the time, no telling why they were selling it, for they may have been going through what I was, and selling a half working card, that I would have to go through the crap to rma it.

Sure they do. It's not common, but it's possible. If he has tried it in several seperate machines and that card is the only common denominator the card is very likely the problem.

Sounds like a half four on Friday card to me, sorry for your find , probably just bad luck.

RMA it's issues to f#@& and move on.

A gtx460x2win I had degraded in weeks, but day's = dammnnn noooo.

I'd guess just a bad memory chip. RMA it to ASUS. On the bright side, I've heard that ASUS now replaces 1080ti cards with 2080ti cards because they are out of stock of good 1080ti's. So you might just get a free upgrade.

I believe it may have been Micron memory which had an issue.

i am 100% sure that is has nothing to with the memory since i can run the memory at -500 or +500 without any difference and the card is 100% stable with lower than stock core clocks.
