Well, I'm building a brand new, that's right, a brand new computer!

...For my Aunt, not for me...

Well, this computer is mainly going to be used for Internet, E-Mail, Word, Excel, and Photos.
But, my Aunt also wanted the computer to be compatible with Vista, for the future. But, XP for now.

So, the part the you all have been waiting for:

Motherboard:
BIOSTAR TFORCE 550 Socket AM2 NVIDIA nForce 550 MCP ATX AMD Motherboard
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813138026

Processor:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+(65W) Windsor 2.4GHz 2 x 512KB L2 Cache Socket AM2
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103749

Video Card:
Leadtek PX8500GT 256MB GeForce 8500GT 256MB 128-bit GDDR2 PCI Express x16
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814122023

Memory/RAM:
A-DATA 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820211066

Hard Drive:
Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD2500KS 250GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822144701

DVD Burner:
SAMSUNG Black 18X SATA DVD Burner With LightScribe Technology
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16827151141

Power Supply Unit:
Rosewill Stallion Series RD450-2-DB ATX V2.2 450W Dual 8cm Ball Bearing Fan Power Supply
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817182022

Mid-Tower Case:
COOLER MASTER Centurion 5 CAC-T05-UW Black Mid Tower Computer Case
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16811119068

That's the main part! I also threw in a Logitech Cordless Desktop EX110, and Windows XP Pro OEM.

This is going to be her main computer. Her back-up computer isn't that bad though. Still an Athlon 64 X2 4200+ AM2, with 1GB of Memory, 160 GB HD.

Well, how does it look? From a business perspective, since that's what this computer will be mainly used for, work (Word, Excel, Internet, E-Mail). IMO, I think it's a pretty decent machine that can run games as well...better than mine.

So, the grand total was ~$750, including shipping. And there's also $30 in MIR.

Yeah, but it's only $75 after MIR, and the most it will be used for is just Photos. I didn't want to go as low as an 8400, not that low.

so you wont be doing any heavy gaming?

Lol, if you read it, it's for my Aunt, just for work/business.

I'm currently saving up right now, gonna buy a whole new system next summer.

well if you're aunt isn't going to game, i doubt she'll care if she had a 8500 series card or a higher-end 8600 series card. that being said, the only plus for a 8500 card is that it's DX10

for the harddrive, the KS model uses a 4-pin molex for power. the AAKS model uses the sata power cable. it's minor, but letting you know.
* just check newegg, i don't think they carry the AAKS model. no big deal.

So, I have to use a 4-Pin Molex instead of a SATA Power Connector? Are you sure?

Anyone else have an input on this build? Do the products look ok, compatibility wise?

that's at least what i found out. i'm potentially looking for a new drive too. i was searching through other forums reading the posts.

i'll pm you a link of the 2500KS review (havn't read this forum's policy on posting links to other sites). it appears the KS supports both the sata power and 4-pin molex, whereas the AAKS only supports sata power connecter.

Ok, thanks for that...having both would be the best IMO, though I would most likely use the SATA power connector.

So, overall, was this a pretty nice buy? Order comes in Thurs/Fri. Kinda can't wait, haven't built a computer in a while...

np.

building a computer, for me at least, is one of the few times i have quiet time. and as most here would agree, there's nothing like putting together a computer from scratch, booting it up and see everything working.

I'd say overall system specs look well balanced. Glancing over the PSU specs it says "+12V1@14A,+12V2@16A". Unless your aunt turns into a hardcore gamer and puts a Geforce 8800, I'd say it'll do the job.

Finished the build! Arrived here Monday, and finished building it the same day. Installed software yesterday, and set it up at my aunt's today!

Success!
