Brand New PSU - High Pitch Noise ?!?

Hey guys, I just got my new antec tpq 1200w and to test it before installing it I plugged the power cord in without plugging everything else (motherboard, CPU and so on...)

and it emits a high pitch noise ... Is this bad???

I wanna make sure bfore I go ahead and install the rest of it

Coil whine, its normal. If you don't like it, you can change it for another one.

If it's powered on then maybe the bearing in the fan is gone. It it's not powered on then yea, probably just coil whine.

*** it's an antec tpq 1200w (doesn't have a power switch... Which means that if I plug it in... It's on)

So I have only plugged the power cord into the psu and the powerbar underneath my desktop... No cables plugged in the mono or CPU or whatsoever....

Should I worry about that noise???

i would. high pitch noises are supposed to drive anything that can hear insane.

it might also be from a damaged capacitor. or a cap which is working at an audible frequency(may be normal for it).

Try plugging the unit into your PC before making any conclusions.

We're good, I plugged everything else with the PSU and the noise stopped... Thank God! I was worried there for a moment :O)

Usually high pitch whines can lead to power supply failures. I would get it RMA'd as soon as possible. Because if your power supply is dieing (Even if it is new) it can take hardware down with it.
