Bricked Vega 56 (BIOS Flash)

Those dip switches are also on the reference model.

The reference model has dip switches. Check the reference review on techpowerup:
Well it sounds like a d500300-100 or 101 bios might help from MSI or AMD at this rate.

Ofc bear in mind inspite correct bios used if the card has a hardware fault it won't work no matter how much flashing is done

Yea I cant find an example of a card that looks like this -- https://www.msi.com/Graphics-Card/Radeon-RX-Vega-56-8G/Gallery#lg=1&slide=3 that has those switches.

Ah ok, I actually think the card is ok just need to get the BIOS set for a final time. I am going to try and flash it with the correct BIOS that I used last night after the initial flash worked but was not quite right.
Msi page is damaged but the part number on the backplate appears to be a reference design.

Its not an air boost for sure. See the the hole in the PCI bracket. Air boost has bigger holes in it.

The only other way someone can be deceptive is to change the pci bracket but most don't bother to go through that much trouble

@PassiveArticFox icFox put in a bios with dev id sub sys 1002 687F 1002 0B36 in, internal details should have D500300-100

D500300-101
D500300-102.

I wouldn't go for the go for D0500350-100 bios since it has a lower power limit.

Review sample bioses. See notes in the bios collection.
113-D0500350-100 -> VER016.001.001.000.008767 (150W power limit)
113-D0500300-101 -> VER016.001.001.000.008766 (165W power limit)

Latest bios version.
113-D0500300-102 -> VER016.001.001.000.008771 (165W power limit)

Yeah its stared under battery power etc, just trying to see if his card will work.

Why flashing a not verified bios (195511.rom) while verfied bioses are present?

113-D0500350-100 (quiet, right position):

113-D0500300-101 (performance, left position):

113-D0500300-102 (performance, left position):

In which position is the bios switch on the card? Are both bioses broken?

ok I got it, order of operations thing I feel confident with things so I went ahead and put 113-D0500300-102 -> VER016.001.001.000.008771 (165W power limit) on there which is working and am going to run some benchmarks etc.

FWIW - I was using that 195511 BIOS because it worked last night and nothing else seemed to.

So you got it running then?

Good to see what I suggested previously is working.

I think @eidairaman1 had the best(safest) approach to just see if the card would work. I am just impatient and like to jump to the end; hence why I was likely in this predicament :roll:I havent fully tested the card yet but looks good on windows device manager etc.

I am trying to decide if I attempt to fix bios #2 with the quite bios which may be todays project.

I think the quiet bios might be 150w and not 165 but look at the bottom notes of each file, just remember

1002 687F 1002 0B36 with d500300 must be used, Samsung Ram

Its so weird, I cant get the performance position (toggle currently pushed forward toward the pci bracket) to flash to the same bios that I was able to flash yesterday (theoretically that is still working).

Vega can take some time to flash leave the switch in position for a day or so

Back to this now, thanks for the help so far! I am working on my airboost card right now which is working and seems fine, but how do I tell which BIOS was installed for silent and performance from the factory? I basically would like to make sure they are flashed correctly.... Currently both settings boot up and seem to work as-is on this one FYI.

Gpu-z screenshot both sides, then go into advanced tab and select AMD Bios and screenshot that please

Typically the bios with higher boost clock rate is your performance bios

Which this would be your performance bios which its boost is up to 1622.

And this would be your quiet bios of 1590

Trying to flash the performance side and getting a subsystem ids mismatch error using atiflash 3.31 (had issues with latest), GUI version vs CLI tool FYI downloaded the versions listed above.

I guess maybe I have the BIOS orientation backwards, when I do some checking I see that performance BIOS

MSI Air Boost Vega 56

  • Towards Power Connectors: Performance BIOS
  • Towards Display Outputs: Silent BIOS

But when I have the bios switch toward the power connectors it has the silent BIOS active. And visa versa... So I guess this card is all good but interested in better understanding if that is the correct config for the BIOS based on the switch position and why it seems to be contra to the expected orientation.
