Hey All!
So I sold this card(was in perfect condition) on Ebay of course the kid contacts me after three weeks, that it does not work. No display with it in primary PCI-e slot. SO I wanted to try n do a blind flash on it, see if he tried to flash it to a 6970 or what eva.
I have a dual core Z97 board, it will not display anything with the card in the first PCI-e slot. If i put it in the third PCIe windows see's it, I have a formatted USB drive. But when I tried to flash it under windows, it comes back that it doesn't see an ATI card. I cant use the second PCI-e cause that's how my board came with it missing. Im using onboard graphics from my CPU. Just need a little direction, also not sure what the sign is to flash to the third PCI-e slot. I havent tried booting with it in primary and in safe mood.
Ive not done this is a long time but nothing to lose.................HELP!

I assume I need ATIflash not ATIwinflash? I need step by step too PLEASE?

My USB drive will only give me a FAT or a NTFS format when I go to format it? It does not offer me a FAT 32. HELP?

FAT should just work.

That Dumb ass Kid tried to flash the card and it failed, I seriously doubt that card is a reference stock keeping unit.

latest program
https://www.techpowerup.com/download/ati-atiflash/ I believe is used in a Command Prompt

a Little Older

WOW!
YOU need to back up, check your Little EGO MY FRIEND. I came here for help, not attitude 18K links is all you do? I didn't try it I was waiting for a replay, not you coming in to stroke your ego(you must be fragile!).

I see some one else who needs to check them self, Solaris is well known to give good informative information which he did once again to be accused of some thing he isn't.

Your loss as to me he's pretty much the go too person about flashing a video card.

Hi

**If you are able to access windows with a spare vga card or on-board vga; Uninstall any AMD drivers for the vga card before the flash process**
**=may apply

Create a bootable flash drive
go here
Download - HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool - v2.1.8 & Windows 98 System Files
click Primary Download unzip the files to a folder on your HDD; make sure your USB Memory stick is attached to your PC; open HP USB Disk
Storage Format Tool v2.1.8 ; select Create a DOS start-up disk/ select: using DOS system files located at: (these are the files you have just downloaded): browse to the files in win98boot; then start the process.

Download latest version of ATIFlash
here - http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads...sh%203.99.html
copy atiflash and [VbiosName].rom to the usb flash drives root directory

Set the motherboard bios to boot from usb *press F8 during boot; select from boot menu if option is available; this should boot to a win98 dos prompt
Type at the dos prompt - dir to view the content of the flash drive
Type at the dos prompt; atiflash -i 0 [see if adapter is at this address and is recognised]
Type at the dos prompt; atiflash -unlockrom 0 to unlock the gpu in adapter 0 [Note: 0 is the primary card PCIe slot one & 1 is the secondary PCIe slot two][*may be required]
Type at the dos prompt; atiflash -f -p 0 [VBiosName].rom [Note: *when booting from on-board vga / igp also = primary position 0] {*First PCIe Slot is 1 and so on}
reboot once finished and remove the flash drive
reinstall AMD Catalyst Drivers

Note: if using a dual bios card Do Not flash the card while switch is in position two

Sorry all Especially Solaris!!!, having a ruff time in my personal life. I don't need my hand held, in my original post it said I used winflash and when the GPU is in the third slot winflash states "NO ATI CARD FOUND"(why I got frustrated) I did read the link before posting. I have tried booting from the jump driver formatted with a FAT and it goes right to windows drive boot.
I am assuming the kid who bought it tried to flash it up to a 6970, as it was covered for thirty days and he contacted me just short of it. Card left my hands working perfectly, since I have lost my job was only trying to stay busy and maybe get a usable card out of it. Sorry as its no excuse but it is where I'm at and its my life(right now).
Thank you for not banning me as, this place does give purpose to my miserable life right now and I do try to help(when not pissing off others).

When I tried flashing my 6950 to 6970 it just didn't give me the additional shaders. It didn't brick it. And I must have tried it atleast half a dozen times before finally giving up. But that might have been due to the way I was doing it. All I'm trying to say is that might not be what happened. Or it might be. Who knows?

The whole graphics card bios flashing thing is such a touchy subject here. A lot of back handed degrading/insulting comments seem to be the norm. Whether or not accompanied by any genuinely useful advice. It's kinda sad.

Anywho. I think you'll probably get it figured if you keep banging away at it. You might try simply asking, without blaming, the buyer if he messed with the bios at all. Might save yourself further headaches. Just a thought.

Good luck!

So if it's still in the 3rd slot you might have to use atiflash -i 2(or maybe atiflash -i 3? if what Law-II is saying about onboard graphics applies...not sure if it does). It should just be a process of elimination to figure that much out. Try atiflash -i 0, then atiflash -i 1, then atiflash -i 2. One of those should be it. If not try atiflash -i 3. You can't hurt nothing by trying. If none of that works then you've got real problems.

Anyway, wherever it finds it is where you direct the flash to. As in atiflash -f -p # BIOSname.rom(# = whatever number it is that equates to the PCI-E slot it's in). Then if it refuses try atiflash -unlockrom #, then try again. Which you probably already know...

EDIT: I just remembered where I ran into that Bad Command BS before. I forgot to drop the version numbers off the atiflash executable after, or before, copying it to the flash drive. It needs to be named just "atiflash". Not "atiflash 2.74"(or whatever version number you're using).

So anyway, I assume my value's in the current bios are borked. I saw it posted that these value's have to be removed or lowered, on my board I have access to the GPU. Also I can go even further and remove the bios chip and short it out, as all normal approaches indicate that it is borked. I live on an apartment where I can't just walk over to it at 6am.......I will post back though.

@Law-II
I assume either my bios is very borked or hard locked and need to short out pins 1-8 on the bios Eeprom to unlock the BIOS for editing. My issue is, I'm on card XFX 6950 1GB(non reference i assume)with no bios switch(1 bios) I cant not figure out which Eeprom is for the Bios, as there are 3 8 pin Eeproms on my card. And it seems most of the info on my card on the net is scarce and not easily available or just plain removed to stop people from even trying it.
Any advice?
THANKS!!!! Found it

Under the heat sink on the CPU die side, with PCI-e pins down I/O to the left, its on the left side bottom of the die towards the I/O plugs. not certain its correct as nothing seems to have changed, and i still have three other eight pin Eeproms...........
