Browser hijack? GPU 15% when using google in FF

So as the title suggests I have an issue with FF when I perform a search from the address bar (google is default) or even going directly to www.google.co.uk, my GPU usage goes from 0 to 15%, it stops if I close that tab or change to another or bring another window to the forefront but it consistently displays this same behaviour.

So I have tried the following to try and find out if there is some kind of malware/hijacker going on.

• Uninstalled FF and reinstalled.
• Installed no miner, miner blocker, ublock origin and adblock plus extensions.
• Run numerous scans of Windows defender, avast AV and MBAM

All of the above to no avail and every time I am on a google page the GPU useage stays at a constant 15% and the vRAM usage inscreases. Scratching my head is there anything I am missing?

Turn off hardware acceleration, use no script, get the tool called spyware blaster, been using it since 2005/2006

Thanks!... 100% this.... didnt even cross my mind as there was no "media" of any type running on the google home pages (that I could see), I don't know how I have only noticed it today tbh

Was just saying the same about Spybot S+D that helped me out of many a pickle back in the XP/early W7 days, nice to see they're still going strong and supported *old school*

Swb is the very first utility I put on the system even before I update Windows and Implement its protections after updating the program itself

You people do realize browsers use GPU's to render webpages, right? This is normal behavior. You want browser to utilize GPU to speed up page rendering and display. It's how it should have been several years ago, but wasn't...

Compared to other browser Firefox is the most intensive gpuwise, whenever I'm using it it's using at least 1 Gb of vram, so i can understand why the op is suspecting that's it's used for mining.

If it's only occasional spikes as you're browsing through webpages, that's normal. If it's consistent load at I don't know, 30% the entire time no matter what you're doing in browser, then that's not normal.

Generally, if you're using uBlock or Ghostery, they both provide mining protection. If unsure, try them and see. Also, as far as I know these scripts only run on CPU as far as I remember. GPU was not affected.
