Not sure if this is the right forum, but i want to lower the speed of one of my e8400 cpus to 1066 to see does it work on my MB. I was told my MB works with 45nm chips but only with 1066 speed. I am looking at videos at how to increase FSB speed, but there's no videos showing how to decrease FSB speed, any ideas or is there a program that allows me to do it ?

I've never heard of underclocking with BSEL mod... only overclocking...

If your system runs, and your board only supports 1066, it's probably running 1066 already. Or maybe whoever told you that was full of #$%@ and it's running 1333.

Try running CPU-Z, take a look at how it's running. If it is running 1333, why on earth would you want to run it slower anyway?

Well here's the thing. My Dell 745/Q965/Dell Inc. 0GX297 (Microprocessor) supposedly supports 45nm chips that only runs at 1066 speed. Seeing how i have two e8400 cpus, one is not being used i want to be able to use that cpu into my dell 745. So i was told that i can try ( it may not work, but worth the try ) to go to my dell 780 and lower the FSB speed to 1066, removed the cpu and put it in my dell 745 to see does it work considering it will be running at lower FSB speed. So i need to know how to do this. I seen videos where you put tape or something on the back of a cpu to increase the speed, but nothing about lowering it.

Hat, hope that answers your question :)

Revin, when you set it to the speed, does it stay set so when i removed the cpu and put it another computer the speed will be at 1066?

In such a case, there is no setting you can change on your Dell 780 that will affect the CPU once you move it to the other system. Changing settings in CMOS (whether in CMOS setup, or some program like SetFSB) only change the parameters the board runs the processor with. You can't change settings, then move the parts to another computer and keep those settings you set in the original computer. You can try just installing the CPU and see what happens, but if it don't work, I'm afraid you're SOL. Underclock via BSEL mod could possibly be an option, but I don't think such a thing exists...

This is what he said:

" It isn't microcode's problem. This motherboard doesn't load BIOS at all with E8400. So any(!) microcode can't be loaded.
You must do BSEL Mod with E8400

" Try BSEL Mod to change FSB for E8400 from 1333 to 1066 Mhz.
You need change BSEL2 to Low. You may shortcut BSEL2 to BSEL1. "

He told me to read this
http://www.overclockers.com/intel-lga775-pad-modding/

Which i haven't read yet lol, i was just wondering was there a simple program that just lowers the speed and sets it to stay. But i guess i have try the other way. And no the e8400 does not work on my mb, orange light.

For anyone who comes across this during a search The Optiplex 745 can't run 45nm CPUs, or 333fsb.
To overclock this you need an X6800, QX6700,or QX6800 CPU. Best one is the G0 stepping SLACP QX6800.
Throttlestop 6.00 will get control of unlocked multiplier and Voltage sttings in Windows. For single thread apps the X6800 should work well. AMD GPUs GCN3 and up won't display the BIOS . Legacy BIOS GTX cards are OK.
Even w/o the overclock the 6800s are the fastest CPU for these.
