I have ran it both ways with no errors.

Well things seem to be more stable now. I re-flashed the mobo bios with the newest version again, took the memory to 5-5-5-18 34 2T @ 1.8v, exactly what OCZ recommends and re-flashed the 4890 back to stock clocks. She ran all night on bootable memtest with no errors and played a few hours of BFBC2 and COD4 with no BSOD's.

memtest tests ALL of the ram, but not all at once. it does it piece by piece, stick by stick. It doesn't have as high activity as heavy gaming.

Do you have written proof of that, as I did temperature testing using a 1X2GB kit, and I tell you it tests both, or one stick would be considerably cooler durring the testing I did on DDR2 all the way up to 2.5V. Not calling you out, but I havent seen such documentation, and based off my temperatures, I would assume they were both under load.

Im kinda thinking the same. Ive abused the memory so much the last few days, it didnt even flinch. Im going to slowly edit the 4890 up and see what her limits are w/stability.

Gotta go with Sneeky here. Memtest86+ bootable loads the ram far harder than any gaming. Sticks get way hotter under memtest than they ever did with gaming.

It has 100% of the time shown me faulty ram much more consistently, and faster than gaming.

i would have agreed with you in the past, except that once i went 8GB it stopped being true. i could pass memtest for hours and hours, yet BSOD in games/windows - and the ram was 90C+ when i finally figured it out

should have did it one by one with the last two things you have done... so u can narrow down

which it was, mobo bios or vga... id say it was ur vga i have a 4890 and when i run my core that

high i also get blue screens that was my first guess when i saw your clocks on that card...

I think it was a bad flash that was doing it. I re flashed the card down to stock, and then slowly oc'ed w/ software. No BSOD's at all. This is one forgiving card. Here is my highest clock stable @1.325v:

edit: I actually clocked it back some and improved my score. I will break that 12000 mark.

he learned that i can diagnose the wrong thing sometimes, and that OCing without fully testing is a bad idea

I was going to say something about the OCs, aka set back to stock meaning CPU, Ram and GPU and see if it still does it. There has been a case where a BSOD has caused drivers to get corrupt and require a Reinstall. I'm glad he figured it out. Just the thing, does the card run his games smoothly?
