Budget 1155 HSF - advice please!

I need a stock cooler replacement for an i7 2600, mild OC. Stock cooler handles it fine, but i'm missing a cooler for a pentium G620 and i think the i7 deserves the upgrade more.

So... recommend me a cooler i can snag cheap off Ebay Au, with performance better than the stock cooler, preferably with less noise?

Best i found so far is the alpine 11 pro rev 2 for $26.30

Can you find the CM Hyper TX3? They're the cheapest aftermarket cooler I prefer to replace the stock cooler.

Depending on which stock cooler you have, that Alpine 11 might actually be a downgrade from stock...

$19 shipping kills the cheap

the deep cool is about $30 from Au. its definitely an option.

Bugger, I was hoping you were within driving distance of a Umart, they are in most capital cities.
The Deepcool looks a bit suss with only two heat pipes, especially for an i7.
Are there any local computer stores in your area?
They may have a cheap cooler that is better.

the local stores here think thermaltake is the only brand name worth stocking, and only have generic super nasty thermal paste. they're not ideal to shop from.

seconded on the deep cools GAMMAXX 400 is whats cooling my cousins phenom II rig keeps it under 60c which is fairly impressive for a overclocked phenom II 4x

I have read good things about the GAMMAXX 400, but have had good experiences with the Hyper T3/4's I've deployed...though be warned the mounting method on the newer version is kinda lame IMHO...it works well enough but seems like it is on the virge of being too weak. I did really like the Cryorig H7, excellent cooler, mounting and fan and clearance for DIMMs.

Agree didnt mention as so many haters about the "loose" mounting bracket.
In my opinion it is great cooler and is not meant to move after installed.

Find one at you local pc stores around not shipping needed

Agreed...the 212 bracket is pretty solid once installed. But many systems get moved around, and the cooler can twist a little...which isn't a big deal compared to the utter shite they use to mount the TX3 and 4.

The TX3/4 "lever clamp" style bracket is the kind that you might want to take the cooler off to transport your PC. I actually know a few folks that went with a TX3 or 4 (new style) with those brackets and had them fall off moving them around the house or into/out of the car...bad news. Thankfully no damage on any of the systems or coolers...but scary none-the-less. If you can align the clamp just right, the pressure is pretty good...but it takes nothing to misalign it even when locked down. Why they can't just use the 212-style mounting across the board for their tower coolers is beyond me. :shadedshu:

So far for me though, Cryorig's H7 mount and Noctua's mount for the U14S have been the easiest and most secure for air cooling I've used, period. Too bad the Cryorig wasn't more available in AUS. Excellent budget cooler...seems to keep the temps below what the 212 was doing in a build where the user wanted better memory clearance... the H7 offered that, a quieter fan, better mounting, easier install, lower overall height and better temps than the 212. Tough to argue with the results.

well this got resolved in an odd way.

I just swapped a stock intel cooler for a corsair H55.

Soo... two stock coolers it is (for dads PC/the spare) and a H55 for the i7 2600.
