hi im hoping some1 can recommend a decent budget board for my 2nd PC (see sig)

i just bought a new gfx card for my main PC ,and id hoped to put my old G80 8800gts 320mb into it ,but the board in use currently is an AsRock and unforuntantly for some reason wont accept the 8800 properly :(

so i thought i may as well by a new board that will make better use of the 8800.

pls dont suggest Asus ,as i have had so much bad luck with them i'll never touch an Asus again.it needs to be reasonably cheap as its only a backup PC and doesnt need a top end board.if anyone has a suggestions for a budget/reliable board it would be great.

preferably id like it to be £70 or under as i dont really want to spend a fortune on a backup machine.

thanks

Have you looked at the Gigabyte P35-DS3L? I'm slightly bias since I own it, but read the reviews, it's actually a pretty nice budget board. I think a newer EP35-DS3L is being phased in, has some energy saving feature.

Btw, have you updated the bios on ur Asrock to the lastest?

yes its on the latest version :( ,i did email Asrock and they said they tested a MSI 8800 320mb and it was fine, but mine isnt ,maybe cos its an OC version ive no idea.
I was intending to get a new board anyway at some point to oc the cpu more, this problem has simply made me decided to do it earlier than originally planned.

will take a look at that Gigabyte board, heard good thing about GB boards ,altho i was under the impression they were quite expensive.

Whats 70E in USD? like 140? You can get a DFI Blood Iron/Lanparty for that much. For a little cheaper look at ABIT's P35 boards they have really good reviews.

£70 could get you a decent board do you need or want a crossfire/sli board?

not bothered about sli/xfire at all tbh ,its for my single 8800gts thats sitting unused cos the asrock board i have doesnt want to play :)

£70 = roughly $130 ish ? ,obviously if its cheaper then all the better, checked price of the mentioned Gigabyte and thast roughly around £60 ,so is a possible.

Any particular reason why not ? they seem a ok board ?

i already have an Abit IP35-E in my main PC ,but its kinda edging towards my limit ,was kinda hoping for something a little cheaper if poss.

if you want to get a good single slot board go for a blood iron because at the price of the msi board you can get a blood iron for about the same or a little more

Ive built 6 systems with the p35 ds3l in the last 2 months. I havent had any dead ones yet. Only drawback I can tell from the mobo is no raid. I was getting them for $90(us) and they were overclocking good. I wouldnt be a whole lot concerened about the brand of motherboard as long as its asus, gigabyte, msi, abit,or dfi. I would be concerened about chipset and it would be p35 or 965p. ALLEN

The MSI P35 Neo2 has RAID, Xfire (1 at 4x), heatpipe cooling, excellent overclocker, stable as hell, black PCB :p, 6 fan headers, reset CMOS button... It's basically a MSI P35 Platinum without the crazy rollerocast heatpipes. P.S. Might be a SLIGHTLY biased opinion as I love mine lol :D

If you look at my system specs, I got my e2160 to 3.0Ghz (333*9) without raising the stock voltage. But generally, those e2160 are good overclockers and 3Ghz should be a very reasonable goal. Any P35-based motherboard will get you there.

And like Allen337, I havnt experienced any problems with the P35-DS3L. The board has moderate overclocking features, in keeping with the price.
