4GB has become the minimum to run a modern operating system and game on. Increasingly today's games are using just under or just over 4GB of physical memory. 8GB should be the absolute minimum for a new build.

To answer your question, the second build (£598) is better for gaming because the ATI 7850 is a fair bit faster than the GTX 650Ti, enough so to warrant the AMD build over the Intel build.

Agreed, you need at least 8 GB. The price difference is minimal relative to the overall cost of the whole sytem.

The 7850 is faster than the 650ti in most games.
