Try other programs? Windows Defender, AVG's free antivirus.

Also install SpywareBlaster for its immunization.

depends on what exactly you're infected with...

try looking around the norton/symantec site, there are some purpose-made applications (usually dubbed "removal tools" or something else to that effect...) there that can eliminate specific types of these buggers...

This is now going to be my standard reply as I've used generally the same one about 20 times.

My advice:
>Get the Nod32 free trial from here.
Then go to setup and tick as I have in the attached picture.
Then Scan your system. If one of the files cannot be removed DO NOT PANIC. Make a note of it's location.
>Download Ad-aware 2007 and also run a FULL scan (get the VX2 cleaner plugin if it's out yet). With negligible items ticked.
>Download Spybot S&D and scan with that. Don't use the "tea-timer" option (it pops up during first time setup of the program) it slows your system down drastically.
>Download the AVG anti-rootkit. Scan with that.
>Use Hijackthis to get a log of everything and either post it here or on a site which deals with this sort of thing.
>Use CCleaner, (or similar) to check your startup entries and also post them here please.
>Also try the TrojanHunter trial for some more troublesome prgrams - do not buy it.
you can use windows defender but I find it takes up too much RAM for it;'s own good.
After all of these have been done (restarts may be required). Start your computer in Safe mode (usually pressing F8 repeatedly after the BIOS screen) This will take you to a menu where you move via the arrow keys up to Safe mode. Then press Enter. Then press enter again when it asks you to boot with your operating system. (XP Home/Professional)

Now scan again with the previous tactics. If certain viruses cannot be removed please repost and I will attempt to show you how to remove them.

Reinstalling Windows is a last resort if all else fails.

Finally get a good Firewall. Comodo or Zonealarm are both highly recommended.
Oh and a last note... have you been looking up porn?:D

I do have experience in cleaning out computers. I have done it to a very large amount of affected PC's. So please trust my advice. By the way, a friend's computer was even worse than yours . Two words "Animal porn"

Hope that helps
