Is it safe to say Bulldozer will be poor (performance per core)? FX-8150, $266.28 (thanks Doug, TH).

http://www.shopblt.com/cgi-bin/s.cgi?s_mfg=AMD&s_max=100&order_id=881372781

Either they are playing the same game they've always played; value for dollar, or they are aiming to take Intel down in a price war (this I doubt).

DANG! i was so excited for Bulldozer until I saw the preorder price :( Don't get me wrong, I appreciate where we are technologically but as a geek, I wanted AMD to take it to the next level.

This has been discussed already.

Value 4 $ suits me just fine. Let me get this straight. People would rather pay more for less? Its like people want AMD to beat Intel just so they can pay more. Does not compute..

Intel costs more currently because they (currently) offer superior performance. It's idiotic to say something you have 0 information on is better knowing only the price.

Slow down Bucky.
You are saying that I know nothing based on one comment that I made.... Did I say that I was in favour of Intel or AMD. No. What I said was that I was in favour of value 4 $ that's it.

And if you look at my system spec I think you would agree.

£168.49 if you do a straight conversion from USD into Pound Sterling. Thats what about the price of a i5 2500K? But remember the FX-8150 is an 8 core chip so it all depends on how how they compete hertz for hertz, a 4 core bulldozer might get smashed by a 4 core sandybridge but saying that id buy the 8 core AMD over the 4 core Intel if it was only a little more in price.

Definitely would have expected these to be much more expensive. Maybe the 6 or 4 core would be this price but you never know till it FINALLY drops.

EDIT: A 2500k right now is value for money but i would hold off right now as that makes sense.

And I would agree with you but I had my Phenom 1055t before the 2500k came out. And because I run Eyefinity I wouldn't notice any difference anyway. In my case anyways.

Yeah back then the 1055t was a good option, it just depends whats available at the time or if its worth waiting.

Then stop reading them.

On topic:

Speculation is speculation. Pricing may be an indicator of performance, but take everything with a grain of salt. When consumer Bulldozer hits the streets and we see actual numbers I'll make my mind up. Though, I'm not an overclocker and I don't need to have the latest and greatest, every AMD chip I have owned has more than lived up to my standards and performed well.

I'm not saying that my i7 940 isn't a monster and that I don't love it. I dig products from both companies.

the x6 cpu's seem dam cheep on that chart at only £119 for a new x6 thats cheeper then the ones that are out now. i highly doubt this is accurate

If you consider prices are relative to performance, then sure, it might seem weird.

But a 6 core @ 45nm is more expensive to make than a 6 core @ 32nm(32nm = more chips per wafer), nevermind that the 6 core is probably the equivalant of an X3 720 chip(chip with parts disabled for whatever reason), then pricing actually makes fairly decent sense.

What did an X3 720 BE cost @ launch? ;)

dam i have no idea at launch but im thinking about grabbing the x6 BE as i dont NEED....... an x8 for gaming, maybe dont need an x6 but im greedy and at that price its a crazy good deal!

TBH....... i would have payed up to £175 for an x6 AMD, if they are going to be as good as the hype.

There is a slight trick with BD's prices: http://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/news/2040223/amd-pay-global-foundries-32nm-chips

If it's really true they aren't wasting money for bad CPU dies and thus making the chip cheaper. At least that's the theory.

It would be a waste mate, just grab a 4 core BD ;)

Well one thing is for sure , I can not buy some thing I have not seen in action yet . No information has been posted as to how well these chips perform . With that said how can any one do this on blind faith ? I need more information as to just how these chip will perform under real world conditions before I will spend any cash on one .
