Hello, my father gave me his 160GB Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 hard disk. It's a 160GB 8MB cache hard disk that he bought late 2003. The problem with this HDD is that it reported 32GB total available space at some point in time. My brother in law inspected it with different software to no avail with his co-workers. I took it and did a MHDD. The problem was the LBA was screwed, so I put back the default LBA value, and now I got the 160GB back.

Now I'm doing a low level format on it ATM of this posting. It's got a lot of slow and bad sectors when you scan with MHDD (F4). But the biggest problem is that it is excessively hot to the touch. I am not putting this HDD in my box! After the low level format, I will put it for sale at 30$ with mention about drive being little hot, but silent.

The weird thing is, when I did a seek test in MHDD, the seek test failed 3 times and the HDD re-initialized a couple time in that sequence. The last seek test I did went solid for 10 mins at around 12.8 ms.

    Toughts, comments...

the only thing weird with western digital is with a 160gb caviar... the hard drive spins like its a 10k but its only 7800rpm and makes a big power up noise...seagate makes QUIETER but not as high performance as wd. i have a seagate barracuda and western digital, both 160gb in raid 0 but the first day i plugged my western digital in... i hear the loud spinning of the hd and the abnoctious clicking when its reading
