Buying new PC or Upgrade my? I have some Hardware questions need help.

Hello, basicly my goal is the game "path of exile" will work smooth and fast

currently this is the pc:
processor: i5 750 2.66 ghz 8M cashe
RAM 8Giga ddr3
Mother board: GA-PSSA-UD3
with 1 pci slot : PCI express 2.0X16
Graphic Card : AMD Readeon 6800 HD
Power suplier: corsair HX 650w

i think to upgrade the video card and buy this:
EVGA GeForce GTX 1060 Gaming, ACX 2.0

will my mother board support this Graphic card? if not what GC should i buy?
you think it will boost the pc and will be enough?
or it is better to buy a new pc? which?
also i think to buy ssd

You would need the latest release or beta motherboard bios, I'd also overclock the cpu if possible.

What is your power supply brand, make/model?

That card and a cpu OC to drive the card might bring that psu over the edge, if youre willing to risk it sure go ahead, however risk of instability due to load or even psu just popping can be higher.

I wouldnt put all my eggs in one basket...

i5 750 is still a pretty good CPU even today,
go for the GTX1060 and buy a good quality new 500W PSU

that graphics wont do anything to the power supply. The 1060 are very power efficient. The poor person doesnt need anything new, maybe new bios update for the motherboard if there is one.

Yes it will work but since your pciex is pciex 2 you cant maximize its potential
But dont worry it will work on your board pretty well

It'll be only a 1 or 2fps difference in gaming afaik, his CPU will be first bottleneck...(IPC)

What i think you shut do.

Overclock that CPU and replace cpu cooler if you use the stock cooler now. But even if you use a good cooler now, it might be a good idea to replace cooling paste if that never has been change since got that pc back then.

Some games would benefit from more ram, but mostly i think 8 GB is ok but not great.

Dont worry about that GTX 1060 it will work just fine. Only a few days a go i swapped in a GTX 1080 TI in my just as old X58 based system and that also only have PCI express 2.0X16 slots and i have no problems so far.
Also note the difference between GTX 1060 3 GB and 6 GB. besides the 6 GB vram this card also has a few more cuda cores than the 3 GB version has. 3 GB has 1152 cuda cores while 6 B version has 1280 cuda cores. that can i other word translated to that the 6 GB version has a more powerful GPU and be a bit faster in games.

If you can afford it an SSD i deffenly worfh it. I have 4 SSD in my system now and never want to go back på to HDD ever again. SSD will not boost in game performence that is all up to CPU and GPU, but will boost load time in games over a harddrive and will make your system more responsive and programs will open much faster + faster boot. Remember to never defragment an SSD as you properly has done with your harddrive and if not remember to disable defrag in windows for the SSD. Defrag a SSD only causes more damage to an SSD by making the memory cells in the SSD where down faster.

Your PSU has the power to drive your system with an GTX 1060 in it also with some overclock. as other said GTX 1060 is very power efficiant. But a replace is not a bad idea since it 7 years old now.

Some games iirc can benefit from SSD speeds if you have a fast system overall, such as GTA V I have been reading somewhere a while ago.
Besides that if you install your OS on it your system will load up a bit faster and could feel a little more snappier overall.
Game loading times should be faster as well. Thats about it.

Update the motherboard bios to latest release or beta before putting in a new gpu at this point to avoid non start issues.

An SSD and an new GPU will give it a new lease of life the only thing I can see that's maybe going to be a problem will be the CPU becoming a bottleneck when gaming also a 7yr old PSU is going to be coming to it's EOL (end of life) probably sooner rather than later so I'd probably shoot for a new one of those too

Yes before these current cards, definitely a must.

The revision of the motherboard should be printed on the edge of the motherboard by the bottom left screw hole.

As for the BIOS flash, look in the manual, it should have instructions. Otherwise visit the Gigabyte website as there are instructions for using Q-Flash and @bios methods.

I am on the same platform as you are @dark_elf.
All the people pointed out what you need to do. I did that a year ago and it worked wonders on my PC.
Look at my specs.
For that I5 750, a 3.5ghz it is very possible on 1.2V, but i did mine stable at 3.8GHZ with no TurboBoost at 1.288V or 1.3V.
If you plan 1080p gaming on this PC, maybe save some money on GPU and get a RX 560 or 570 4GB models (from the Red Team) and invest them in SSD since i think our I5s are little bottleneck for a 1060, maybe 1050ti would be a better option from the Green Team.

Get a good Air or AIO cooler that can cool over 130W since if you OC you will reach this TDP on your I5.

8GB DDR3 1600 or 1866mhz is a good memory and will give you room to OC since CPU is with locked multiplier.
My choice was: Kingston HYPERX Black 2 x 4GB 1600mhz.

PSU wise, with a new card like the 1060, a decent 500W to 550W PSU would do the job, and not rip you off your pocket.

Lastly, go for 240GB slowest SSD you can find, you wont be able to use its full speed on SATA 2 or SATA 3 with a controller on that board so, a good and cheap option would be Kingston A400 240GB SSD.

Nothing more i can tell you about exept go to my system specs and check out my own rig and you will get the idea.

Peche's advises...

1. SSD is something you should try, with a fresh format for sure!

2. update Bios to latest Version available, if possible avoid Beta's,

3. Video card: GTX 1060 6GB its a solid card, it matches stock speeds of GTX 980 which is a terrific video card, so if you have the penny get GTX 1060 6GB variant, the 3GB one is crap, avoid it...

4. your PSU still might have some the chance, just be sure dust it out, and if possible check with a PSU tester... thos older TX series are solid enough,

5. Overclocking your cpu / ram will give you some extra Horse power... be sure to have the proper cooling, new thermal paste and cleaners! AIO watercooler are pretty affordable solutions now days...


Dont worry about your boards PCI revision, new video card will work, just be sure to update Bios, also if possible or desired to try a SSD its better to do a fresh windows install!
SSD's are great for OS, daily and important programs, benefit on gaming its almost nothing, i use my SSD just for OS and daily programs, HDD can be used for games and basic storage.

i bought the ssd. Also bought the v.card
Still waiting the card. Should arrive in a week or 2.
