buying titan V

So ever since the new titan came out ive been saving every penny. Then I noticed on a google search that ebay had a card for sale at £2250.00.
saving roughly 500pounds. thats a lot of money to some people. its a lot of money to me. so I risked it and the seller scammed me and just took the money without sending anything.
then after waiting for paypal to retrieve the money, I hear about the new cards being released on the 20th... this made me feel relieved that I hadn't received the titan v in the first place.
then I noted another ebay titan v being sold. only this time the titan was new(they say) sealed only they dont have the original shipping manifest which you need if the card becomes faulty so this was a risk. then the price dropped to £1950.00. so after being sat without my desktop for months, I decided to splurge.
So now I have a titan V for 1950 minus the 700 I received for my titan Xpascal. So £1250 for a titan V...

The question is, so close to the new cards release, did I do the right thing???

Titan V is a horrendous value for money , whether you bought it for 3000 pounds or 1250 , there is no questioning that. Also if you bought it for less than half of what it used be now, you can probably imagine how will it go when you'll try to sell it and those new cards are out .

That being said , I don't know what to say. You look like you got a fair bit of cash on your hands anyway so I wouldn't care too much.

I highly doubt, card(s) released now will be faster than Titan V.
Also, getting one might be more difficult than getting Titan V for half it's price

One you remove the power limit and oc it's a fair bit faster than 1080Ti/TXp, so if you have the money then why not. Titan V is new arch (Volta), new cards will also be Volta (nerfed with no tensor cores and gddr6 though)

You can see in this video that Titan V OC runs the same scene in Witcher 3 36% faster than 1080Ti. OC vs OC it'll be +20-30% faster than overclocked 1080Ti depending on the game,which is absulotely blazing performance.

I would slap an aftermarket cooler on that ASAP, like the Morpheus or Accellero Extreme. The stock cooler sucks, even for the 1070, for a Titan V it's going to be your main problem.

Even think about liquid cooling with a 280mm.

As I get older, ive been noticing the limitations of memory bandwidth and the smoothness of the experience as a whole. I noticed the frametimes were nearly half that of the previous generation. it was seeing that at first which made me really want a version with hbm2.
I love new hardware aswell so I just couldn't resist buying one.
As far as money goes, i'm just a good saver. I dont have my old business behind me anymore as I wanted to learn how to code and move my career in another direction.

Like I said, there's no one here that wouldn't prefer Titan V over next gen 1180, as long as money is no object and Titan V is CLC/watercooled. Titan V is going to be faster than 1180 for sure.

compared to last gen, I think the new ddr6 will help the volta based cards.
I speculate the only other thing it lacks compared to the new cards is led's…. which i'm not bothered about obviously.

The card will boost to it's limits as long as it's under 70 degrees, which a high end cooler like the Morpheus II can do no problem. So there's no real advantage in spending £400 on watercooling.

SLI sucks.

The Titan V is a workstation card designed to do certain things such as deep learning and AI better than other cards. What do you do or use it for that a Titan V will suit you?

Honestly feels like you are a gambler. You just want someone to validate your choice? I would never spend that kind of money on a card with no warranty (second hand cards directly from nVidia have no warranty). If the card goes out tomorrow you are out that money forever.

Let's say Titan V isn't a good GPU for its price vs. perf, but it's still the best GPU out there (and look at the sexy shell, w00t). You'll be fine for a very very long time considering it's based on volta, it has a tensor core and 12GB of HBM2. It looks like a card from the future. I'm pretty sure it will be as fast as 1180, maybe more. You pay premium for a premium card, and if I would be in your skin, I wouldn't regret a single buck.

Which they didn't really because of slow adoption and needing to hit release deadlines, by the time anyone could even learn it, everyone was deep in set development cycles. Also nVidia didn't seem to market those tensor cores anywhere near games. Plus, DirectX 12 is being left in the dust by Vulkan for better compatibility with other OS and other advantages. I assume future Gameworks titles will be DX12 only though. nVidia might find some gimmick to put in Gimpworks that uses Tensor cores maybe real-time raytraced scenes, who knows. It will be a while before a mid-range GPU will call to have these cores, AI and other stuff is mainly the job of the CPU and that seems to be doing just fine.

Though, imagine real-time AI learning on games, so they could navigate on their own without navmeshing and trying to defeat the player by learning. DOOM (2016) has pretty damn good AI, but it uses a different systems to achieve the results.

TL;DR - Major adoption of DX12 and Vulkan is still 3-5 years away. Tensor core acceleration for games is a dream right now, that could change but not overnight.

They didn't market tensor cores on gaming cards cause they do not have gaming cards with tensor cores and rtx is still in development.What would they market tensor cores for ? Playing a game that does not use them on Titan V ?

the cards perfect for me, I put a successful pc business down to start learning to code as ive had health issues. as soon as I realised I was going to be able to code well, ive payed for the courses I need and now i'm just sat going through them one by one. I wanted to look at doing something with robotics and the new nvidia software looks pretty good. I honestly would of preferred to of waited untill the 20th, to get the 32gb model which I suspect might be announced. the ceo edition. but then I thought the price might also be inflated.

then I would have to sit here for another 11 days with no desktop. and i just cant waste that time. the titan V is good enough for me for now.
and I hate working from my laptop. I havnt got it set up properly.
I didnt expect to have my money stolen on ebay, on my first attempt to buy one on that platform.

the new seller just contacted me, to let me know the card will be here by 1pm tomorrow. exciting...
oh and the cards brand new so I can put ebay down as the place I bought it, register the card with nvidia and I should have warranty. if not meh... I did ask them if they had the original manifest from nvidia. the cards sold as new sealed.

will update with pics and benchmarks tomorrow... praying the card is fine!!!!!
