I'm intending to buy the following tomorrow. Grateful for a sanity check on the parts I've selected and a suggestion as to which of the many 1060/6GB GPU cards I should opt for. Keen not to spend more than I need to, but conscious about space, noise, heat.

Many thanks for any suggestions.

I am not one of those more experienced people but,
why not 2x8gb instead of 1 stick of 16gb ram ? You will have more performance with ram working dual channel, unless you are planning to add another 16gb stick in close future. And for the many 1060/6GB graphics card, they will be pretty much the same, just fancy different names.

If you're using this build for gaming then the 1060 will probably struggle to run most games at high settings on 1440p but still playable.
Can't go wrong with any brand really, though I have preference for EVGA for Nvidia cards.
Ram probably go dual channel 8gb kit unless you're planning to add another 16 like zbam said.

I would get a monitor with 120hz refresh rate minimum. For gaming there is a big difference.
60hz lcd monitors are a waste of cash imho at the moment.

1. If you're into building an ITX rig and that's why you chose 7700 non-K cause of its 65W envelope along with 2400 ddr4, may I interest you into 5775c with ddr3l ? This cpu will beat 7700 fair and square in games, and it's gonna do great in an itx build.
2. Toshiba X300 is loud as hell. I'd get something quieter, like the 5900rpm Ironwolf drives from seagate. HDDs just don't benefit that much from the 50MB/s increase that choosing a 7200rpm involves, but they sure do get loud as hell.

With a 1440p monitor I'd recommend at least a GTX1070 or Vega.

If you want to buy a GTX1060, I'd recommend a 1080p G-Sync monitor.

Benchmark Scores Faster than yours... I'd bet on it. :)
Glad you reached out...

1. Go 2x8gb ram
2. A 1060 at 2560x1440 wont cut it. Get at least a 1070 or a preferably 1080.
2a. I also wouldnt use vega(64) in an itx build unless it was undervolted...
3. Id get a better psu... evga 500b or 550w g2.

How much difference does it make if I'm not gaming? Personally I will not be playing games, my 8 year old kid might - but I see it as a bonus for the machine. This links to the screen choice, I want that particular monitor for graphic work and need the 1440p resolution.

Thanks for the point on the HD. WIll try and look for a quieter one.

For the RAM speed, the motherboard doesn't mention compatibility with 3000mhz, hence my choice. If i can use faster though I'll get it - but can I?

I'm going to upgrade with an additional 16GB stick in the near future - again, graphic work can be a real memory hog.

Thanks very much for the comments. Anything else I should consider?

You need to be running DUAL CHANNEL on the ram (two sticks). That is why we suggested 2x8GB.......

If you don't game, then get a 1060 6GB. It will choke on games at that res already but... playable.

If you truly don't want to play games I see no reason in buying a 1060 ( that mind you is still inflated in terms of pricing in most cases ).

Grab a 1050ti/RX 560 ( you can even find passive cooled ones I think ) and save yourself 100 bucks or so and use it to buy a bigger SSD or something.

So, long story short - I've decided to go with a Ryzen 1600 rather than intel.

The remaining thing I've left to buy is the GPU. I've decided to futureproof a little and go for the 1070. I want a quiet one, but struggling as to which. Having done some reading, people advise the MSI Gaming X 1070 - but I've also read that it is too tall (not too long) for the QBX. Unfortunately I can't find any stats for the max HEIGHT that the QBX will take in terms of GPU. Surely this must exist somewhere?

Gratefuly for any suggestions for 1070 cards that will fit - if they are quiet, so much the better.

Thanks.
