Hello, I just found an Asus Rampage III Formula motherboard (with one of black ram slots not working) and i7 950 for 420 TRY (110$). Would buying these parts make sense? Is it an acceptable upgrade from my A10-7850K? I have 3*4 12 GB DDR3 RAM, R7 260X GPU.

That 950 should clock pretty well on the rampage and blow the a10 out of the water at everything and for $110 it's a damn good price for that kind of performance, I'd go for it, I'm assuming it has the 6 ram slots so you should still be OK for 3x4gb tri-channel?

Probably yeah, only a one of black slots are broken. Only RED RAM Slots are needed for triple channel.

The X58 platform is still a pretty desent platform also when it comes to performence. Just as NdMk2o1o already told you, these old chips can clock on the good side of 4 GHz if properly cooled.
I have an I7 920 sitting a Asus Rampage 2 extreme motherboard and that can clock to 4.4 GHz but kepping it at 4,17 GHz for daily use cause of heat. But this is the last day i will be using the old I7 920 because i have an I7 980X (6 core CPU for X58) with motherboard and cooler just waiting to replace my old CPU (I7 920). So i will still be on X58 but got that I7 980X with a good motherboard and a Noctua NH-D14 cooler and 12 GB corsair vengeence memory kit for 208 USD including shipping and that is a good price.

If there on the motherboard still are 3 ram slots working so you are good for triple channel ram and 12 GB ram then it is not a bad choise if you want cheap performence. Just be aware of that X58 is a power hungry platform when overclokket but i can live with that, Can you? if yes, when go for it. For that money its cheap performance and X58 is a very reliable platform aswell, meaning its hard to kill and just work day after day.

Here is my own I7 920 as it has run the last 4 years.

Here is 3dmark firestrike bench run when the old cpu runs 4.4 GHz if that help you how X58 performe.

I love the X58 platform as I just purchased a similar package (i7 920 and X58 motherboard). That being said, I don't think your going to be getting a night and day difference between the two unless you plan on overclocking it up to say 4 ghz+. Thing is the A10 and it actually will be very similar overall in comparison especially with that GPU but the i7 will be better if you get good cooling on it and overclock it (Though the same could be said for the A10).

I would say get a better GPU over the motherboard and CPU personally.

Going to an x58 wouldn't be feasible at this point, I agree with GhostRyder- Grab a new GPU and call it a day.

Wasn't meant to be.

1366, 1156, 1155, 1150 in that order are getting rare year by year. Im pretty sure 2011 (not-3) are getting that way too.

I was lucky to find a 754 board almost 2 years ago that I didn't feel was being gouged in price.

Best thing for that APU system is to upgrade the gpu besides waiting on Ryzen

It's not just the recent stuff either, retro stuff is gouged to hell too. Ebayers want a friggin $100 for old school high end AGP cards like X800XT.

I'm still running X58 with a Xeon i7 X5675 6-Core overclocked to 4.2GHz. I would totally get that mobo/cpu combo for that price.

I picked up the Xeon on ebay for dirt cheap, like $50 US. Now it's can keep up with everything out there that are new.
