Mate....look at the ratio. Let's say example X:Y. ALWAYS use the FSB to divide the X then mutiple by Y and you get the frequency the ram is running at. Terms of DDR, you just X2 it.

This is a super fast board and will do a 500 fsb which is about 20 mghz faster than a 680i board. Read the techpower up reviews section on it, its a moster. Also read the user reviews. It uses ddr2. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813127030

Also the newer revision 680i board overclock the quad perfectly fine.

Thats why I said to look at the user reviews The Abit forum boards agree listing it as steller overclocker matching the reviews it is a monster board. No all p35 boards can't ABIT went crazy with this board trying to become the great overclocking company they once were and making a super bang for the buck board but most p35 will do 450fsb and some are supposed to do 600 fsb with the e6850. It has 8 phase power system most have 3 or 6, solid capacitors and better quality electrical components.

very true, i just meant in like general, like is the 500 fsb because of something abit did to the board or is it cause of the chipset? cause i wanted to get this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131188 which has 4 ddr2 slots and a 2 ddr3 slots, and i wanted to hook up 2 of these: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148069 with one of these: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835704001 cause lots of 1066 ram get fried do to the high voltage though the micron d9 chips are going strong, but just to be on the safeside..

the abit looks great but having some ddr3 slots would help futureproof you know?
asus has some quality control problems it looks like from the reviews, you guys know any other mobos that do both ddr2 and ddr3?

Crucial has gurantreed it to run at 1066mhz 5-5-5-15Timings at 2.2v. Meaning changing to these wouldn't spoil your ram. It's just to tell you they run stable at those thingy. You could of course OC it further or tighten the timings.

Ok so what are your plans for graphics card first? Right now i would recommend 2X1GB rams. They would suffice enough for current games. Getting a P35 board (the abit one) would mean getting a gpu card from ATI as it has dual PCI-E slots to run X-fire. You could of course just buy a single card but you would be wasting the potential. Most would recommend a ATI card for P35 board and Nvidia Card for Nforce board.

Buying the ram cooler is also a good thing as it could keep your rams cooled when you overvolt it. (above 2.2v where many start to have fried rams at 2.35v)

im actually just helping my friend build a system, and he wants 4 gigs of memory, you know for the future and all, we're getting the x1950xt for now, no x-fire, though we do want a dual grafix card board so that the x-fire option is open. the how can i oc the the crucial? people say the micron d9's have a high oc capability, should i lower the cas or up the mhz?

loosen the ram timing and up the voltage, most micron d9's can take up to 2.45v. I wouldn't go past 2.35v without active cooling.

yes start upping the fsb or unlink the memory if your board supports that function and set the memory at say ddr 1100 680i board allow you to run the ram speed independant of the FSB but other don't. The p35 motherboards have a similar function I believe.

i think its based on the manufactuer instead of the chipset, cause my biostar tforce nvidia 550 does that. if i leave the mem speed to auto i think it uses fsb, but i can manually set the speed too

no I believe it's based on chip set. Thats a nivida chipset aswell, but I could be wrong. I think the intel 965 boards cannot change ram independant of the FSB, I think, someone correct me if i'm wrong.

Gigabyte used to make crap but within the last years they have made some unreal DS3 boards and this is a good one but not sli or crossfire. this is the only board I can recommend, and I researched the hell out of this topic lastnight.

exactly what i needed, thanks, though i think i'll need to get 2 ram fans now lol cause each fan cools 4 mem slots, and that one has the 2 sets of 2 ddr2 slots seperated by a gap and a ddr3 slot.. time for the fan count in my case to increase to 17 lmao

No point in having DDR2 and DDR3 on the same motherboard... We will see DDR2 being phased out what... in one to two years time? DDR hasnt even been discontinued yet! Not all P35 boards can manage 500FSB... 450ish is max until they need voltage ramp-ups. Go for the gigabyte N650i SLI DS4, screw crossfire man... but this mobo can do 500fsb out-of-the box.

no, i dont think i'm gonna do ddr3, i already have 4 gigs of ddr2 1066, which will be sufficent till the time i need to build a new system(in like 6-7 years probably). i prefer having x-fire because grafix are ever so advancing. every year the grafix become better and more power demanding then the year before, and so i think x-fire will be a better investment then ddr3. whats the best p35 x-fire board out there? i might go sli as well. so back to where i started, p35 or 680i? both do quad core cpu's and im not going ddr3 so...

Yes pt is right. DDR2 is still good for now. Look at DDR, it's still around as long people still demand for them. I would recommend a Gigabyte P35 DQ6 if you don't mind. It has dual-xfire (16x,4x). If you would however want to wait, you could probably get your hands on the next flagship board from both intel and gigabyte. The Gigabyte X35 DQ6 would support dual PCIE X16.
