Hello all, this is my first post and I signed up specifically for this thread.
I had this exact problem start on my Dell XPS 730 H2C, which had a load of problems on its own, but it lead me to believe it was heat related. That computer had dual radeon 3870x2's at first the crash started only in COD4, but after fighting the problem for 6 months, left4dead started to do the "TRRRR" crash, along with COD:WAW and any other graphically demanding game. I later found that my motherboard had basically started to melt. This is in part that the H2C units are garbage. Point being, I have 2 of these xps's, and I switched to the other xps when the first went down...and about 6 months later, the other xps had the same TRRR crash...
Just recently I finished my first custom built comp which you can see in my system specs, I've had it running since August of this year, nothing overclocked running dual 4870x2's. 2 nights ago, i got the TRRRR in MW2 multiplayer, running max everything at 1920 resolution. I immediately thought heat problems, so I turned my GPU fans to 50% and turned MW2 resolution down to 1600 left everything else maxed. I recorded my temperatures with GPU z, and after playing for an hour, my hottest temp was about 70C. my cards idle at ~45C.
No crash.
Last night, I did the same test only turned the fans to 40% and left everything else as it was. Highest temp hit was 80C.. This makes me suspect that running at 1920x1200 graphics maxed, I could have easily been way over 100C.
I went through all the sound card/memory test, issues with the XPS but I don't know what to blame with those garbage comps.
I just hope my brand new rig isn't dying like the xps's
On the bright side, the northbridge stays about 30C on high load, my highest cpu temp has been like 48C so at least I know those parts are nice and cool.
