Games just don't have the magic anymore.

Yes they still do if you look hard enough. Maybe not the same type of magic, but magic nonetheless. If you sieve through the popular junk and look around you will find gems here and there. Not many, nor with bleeding edge technicals/art but they exist.

Limbo and Trine were close....but WAY to easy.

Not this time Bobby. I have EVERY CoD from 2 right up to MW3. I have never been interested in the MP side of CoD it was always about the SP Story and fun stuff like Zombies or later the Spec Ops Mode.
I finally put my foot down and said no to this one(Oh but that new Zombie "Campaign" has me OH so curious) The whole Season Pass crap is getting out of hand as well. I will keep an eye on my favourite online game retailers and if I can get it at a considerable discount only then will this one be added to my collection. I mean cripes they were still asking $60 on Steam for the first BO which is going on 2 yrs old...

I'm 34. That's the issue. We are old enough to remember when a sequel offered new graphics, new surprises and didn't happen EVERY YEAR. It was a treat to play "Part 2" of something. I remember hearing about Super Mario 3 was coming.........and you could be a raccoon and fly! OMG MARIO CAN FLY NOW?!

There is not to many "OMG MARIO CAN FLY NOW?!" moments in video games anymore.

Yes, but let's not forget that our generation is the one who are making these games, and we do remember how is a good game really plays like. I think that the generation we are talking about here (our descendants) is a very special one and they are truly remarkable, nothing the world had before. I'm not the "old times were better" type of person, and I believe that humanity is advancing and developing, and these younger girls and boys are very smart and very unique in every way, so I'm really puzzled about how come they like COD?

Games are getting dumber and easier year by year in a perplexing speed. It's getting harder and harder to find a hard and challenging good game to get some flawless entertainment at nights or a game what you could play to have some fun with your friends.
How come that the majority of gamers doesn't want something better than COD? There must be a huge demand if the publisher can still produce bigger and bigger sales numbers in every new year: but why is that demand exists and why is it still growing?
People generally want better things on the long run, and while marketing and media might alter demands and taste a lot, you can't produce growth year after year from selling something which people don't like or want, it won't work.

So I'm puzzled what's in the COD series which produces these numbers? I can only think of some psychological issues, like
  • - the players are allowed to kill others without the need of taking responsibility and they love that feeling,
  • - they are so superficial and shallow, that they only care about the visuals and the violence,
  • - or they are not interested in putting any effort getting good in something so they are subconsciously choosing games with the lowest possible skill ceiling,
but guesses like these would lead me to believe that we are talking about a stupid generation here, which I'm not willing to accept.

How come that the majority of gamers doesn't want something better than COD?

Back when computer games are largely enjoyed by those who are technologically literate (and therefore smart), games were produced for that crowd. Nowadays every single retard can operate them (to some extent), so games mostly caters to them instead.

Also, the rate at which good game comes out is still more or less the same as before, maybe even a bit higher. You still get challenging games (Demon's Souls for PS3, I heard Metro 2033 is hard, but havent play them yet), but as usual people tend to only see the popular ones and then pass the "everything is shit, I don't want to live in this world no more" and conveniently ignore the rest.

Another point to notice is that gaming is more and more about multiplayer, and from that you still get a lot of good ones.

Kids today are F#$king idiots. I have no idea what the hell you are talking about.

This man speaks the truth. Source: my mother is a teacher and she can feel retardness creeping in year after year.

FTL, Stardock games like Sins of Solar Empire, Minecraft, DayZ mod, Walking Dead, Terraria, XCOM, etc.

most of the mainstream games now don't have the magic.

looks like we are all video game hipsters

My point is money. EA wants more, so that's why BF4 is going to be even more COD like.

If the future BF4 EA/Dice press releases only mention xbox/ps3 and not pc - all hope will be lost and BF will be dead. :banghead:

I agree, thats why in almost all video games today, everything is spoonfed: tutorials, controls, kill this kill that, go here go there, button prompt everywhere.

Compare it to the NES Mario, you start the game, and there it is, The game, no tutorial, no prompts whatsoever, you just play the game, you figure it out all by yourself, if kids today will be asked to play a game similar to this, they will say its too complex/complicated/hard.

I think the game kicks ass over MW3. Treyarch is one of my favorite devs, and they deserve success. The only bad thing I can say is they encrypted the config file, but in there defense I've not seen the hackers I saw in MW3 or MW2. I'm not saying they are not there, but it's better. I'd love to have the config file open, but I don't want it open, and have hackers everywhere. and before anyone says it.. I've got every BF game there is on PC.. I don't have the console ones. I like BF games better, but this games good until BF4 or what ever else. I still really want a BF 2143 before BF4, but I'll take either. :toast:

How old are you?

This isn't the first time you ask someone who like Call of Duty how old he is.
More than disrespectful, its just showing your lack of tolerance and stereotypical thinking.

Is CoD for PC fun? yes, for me. The community is much more mature than what you will find in consoles. Zombies mode rocks, Promod rocks.

And that's coming from a gamer who also play BF3 (premium), and kick's ass there.

Some people got used to hate CoD just because its Cod, Without even hesitating about what they burp thru the keyboard.

-10 for you mate.

Um I asked him how old he was because he DOESN'T like CoD for a paticular set of reasons I agree with. If you are gonna lecture someone at least know WTF you are talking about.

Reason number___ why western gaming sucks. Western gamers spend all their money for the same non innnovative titles over and over so studios stop taking risks on new ideas.

The number of fantastic titles we've missed out on that get released only in Japan...gah, it grows by leaps and bounds every year! We see more innovation here in indie devs than we do from established gaming studios. Pathetic!

I loved CoD4, it was the first FPS I played extensively since Alien Trilogy. Before that I mostly played third person action or racing. I skipped World at War because I only like modern warfare and when Modern Warfare 2 came along it got old fast. One moment in CoD4 that was intense was when the rockets were launched, that was some amazing stuff then in Modern Warfare 2 pretty much everything was over the top carnage. It took away from the shock and awe of what was happening.

Then there's the fact that it's shoot, quick time button press, heavily scripted gameplay, useless team AI thrown in. It's the same game it was back in 2007 just a different story and graphics. I'm glad I borrowed Modern Warfare 3. Activision will do just fine without my money.
