Can a 4K 24" monitor's resolution be scaled down to 2K or 1080p at higher refresh rates?

Talking about a budget 4K monitor LG 24UD58. It comes with native resolution of 4K @ 60Hz.

I like to know if I scale down the resolution to 1080p, will Windows gives me more refresh rates to choose from. Or the refresh rate is fixed at 60Hz no matter what resolution it is set to?

I wouldn't buy a 4K monitor if my GPU was a RX 570 4GB assuming it is for gaming.

Image quality is always best at native resolution.

Depends on the monitor, some do that but it comes down to if monitor can do it not windows.

edit: Looking at manual for said monitor it would be a no that monitor is limited to 60hz from top to bottom.

if the refresh limit is 60hz than that is the limit regardless of 4k, 1440p, 1080p, 720p, etc.,

You can lower the resolution but it will most likely not look as good as the native resolution.

Overclocked to 70hz at most. I wouldn't expect anything crazy. Monitor resolution and refresh rate isn't revolved around bandwidth, but the panel itself. In the ye old days 3D TVs (60hz) could be used tp output 2D 120hz. But only because the panel itself was 120hz that was made to output 3D 60hz.

And anyway what happened to the two 1080p 144hz monitors you bought?

Haven't bought it yet

Can you help me to understand this is BenQ Ex2150 HWUB highly recommended 1080p 144Hz IPS panel.

According to the resolution spec, PC Timings allow only 60 and 144 Hz @ 1080p. Other frequencies like 75, 120 are not supported under PC Timings. Does it mean that under Windows display properties adapter settings, only 60 and 144 Hz can be set ? What about other frequencies?

Keep in mind that monitors have the best viewing quality only with max/native resolution. Whet set to smaller res the image is blurred, as some of the physical pixels of the monitor are in the middle of the feed res pixels and trying to display a mix color.

Most likely no you will have only 60Hz option in windows display settings however you can use Custom Resolution Utility(CRU) and OC your monitor refresh rate but don't expect miracles in best case you will be able to go up to the 75-80Hz.........I am using 4K-Benq 28" and it's 60Hz monitor and in some demanding games I been switching resolution to the1440p or 1080p and I am more then happy with the 60Hz but I am not playing competitive FPS games so that I desperately need 140Hz refresh rate...personally I will always choose higher res over higher refresh but I guess that depends of your personal preference and monitor use.....GL

P.S.Be aware that 4K on 24" have high count PPI and even if you scale 150% some apps&Icons are going to be super small.....for 4K resolution personally I will not go bellow 27",28" again that is also personal preference......

This is true, but, IF you must downscale, it is better to do it by a factor of 2. ie. 4K downscales to 1080P reasonably well, much better than it does to 1440P. Same way that a 1080P monitor can use DSR to render at 4K and have the result look pretty decent, but if rendering 1440P downscaled to 1080P instead it often looks quite bad.

Yeah downscale to exactly half res keeps the image crisp but makes image pixel exactly twice the size. 4 monitor pixels form 1 big image pixel.
