Cooling Thermalright assassin 120 se

Case Deepcool M370
Power Supply Thermaltake GX2 600w
I was wondering if the 980ti can run games at 1440p/60hz high settings, I know it can do 1080p handles it well even thought it's starting to show its age.

I currently run most AAA on medium with shadows and effects and everything else turned up to ultra on my 1080p/144hz monitor which it doesn't always hold 144 fps and mulitplayer games ping my cpu i5 8400 to 90% at times.

I'm trying to figure out if I should buy a 1440p monitor hearing that it's more to see and looks better than 1080p

Use the DSR option in the control panel and simply run games at that resolution to see what the performance is going to be like.

At stock it can probably hold it's own at 60 fps with most eye candy.

No reason to stay at 1080

My gfx card and lcd in system specs have no problem on high @1440p, at worst I turn down AA or ambient occlusion.

I have a 980Ti and it runs perfectly fine at 1440p.

Not at 144fps nor at the highest details, but with some tweaking you can still play with very good quality and good frames.

I have a GTX 980 Ti also. It runs good on high settings on 2560 x 1440 @ 60. But some games drop below 60 fps but its still handles most pretty good

Just don't max everything out... 4GB is barely ok with 1080p, I guess that the same rule goes with 6GB/1440p. 980 Ti is still a pretty powerful card, I'd like to get one myself! What games do you play?

I'm rocking with the good old Radeon R9 290, I'll just turn the settings down if a game won't run fine otherwise, a stable 60 fps is the most important thing for me.

Turning off ambient occlusion (ao) is a must for most games, even the ones that 'support' it often don't properly and you get tracers at best and weird surface transformation and lighting issues at worst (gtav cutscenes with ao on are just awful, devin westons shirt in the scene where michael drops off some papers was triangles aplenty no matter what ao setting I used except off where it rendered correctly).

I like dsr on my 240hz 1080p monitor but I've used 4k before too and while it does look a lot better than 1080p it's a long way from a 240hz refresh. I think 120hz 4k are out now, might be worth a look. A 1070 can do 4k @ 40-60fps+ with settings on very high to ultra except ao. Also I don't use motion blur either, and a 980ti is slightly better than a 1070.

Depends on what you play, a RTX 2080 can't max out all the games in 1440p with everything on. I play singleplayer games with all the "eye candy" on, because i belive that is what the producers intended us to. But multiplayer games i run on high-medium or even low or off. As said above in some games AO(ambient occlusions) are crap, like in Battlefield V, AO and motion blur were the first thing i disable when i played it last weekend.
If you want to invest frequently(1-2 years) in a GPU then switch to 1440p, if not, just stay at 1080p.
In the course of a year i went from a GTX 980Ti to a 1070Ti and now a RTX2080 on a 1440p 144Hz monitor.

PS: with RSI or image sharpening from nVidia, you can now run most games with FXAA instead of MLAA, and get a crisp image.
