hello,

in the past, nvidia's xx80 ans xx80Ti cards shared blocks but now we seem to have a divergence. some blocks claim to support both while others claim to be only 2080 or only 2080 ti. i compared pictures of the two PCBs and i can't figure out why a 2080 Ti block wouldn't work on a 2080. 2080 is missing some VMRs and memory but, like in the past, i figured the extra contact surfaces will just be unused.

is there something on a 2080 that interferes with a 2080 Ti block that i'm not seeing? i contacted someone from EK and alphacool, got nothing from them. seems like a ploy to sell more blocks

thanks

Depends. Reference designs are different. AIB's custom PCBs may use the same layout for both RTX2080 and RTX2080Ti but that does not seem to be the usual case.
From obvious differences - RTX2080 has 8 memory chips vs RTX2080Tis 11.

Edit:
EKWB has Cooling Configurator site for compatibility checking - https://www.ekwb.com/configurator/
Pictures of both reference PCBs from there - different enough:

The easy answer is no full cover blocks have cuts outs for risen components, this apply for most cards you can't install a 1080 block on a 1080ti one has more compnents on the PCB and are placed in different places.
