Sorry for late reply was posting at 1am me thinks, Good morning! (7:00), yeah will borrow a friends PSU, I've had a hunch that it's the PSU because this was only a salvaged one (aged). Altho system now is working because of disabling the intelppm.sys (I think it's a processor driver bec. my devicemanager tells me that the processors have "!" and is borrowing some functions from another driver.) Could really a psu inflict this trouble, as upon checking/smelling the processor and socket there's no hint of burns or smell of it...

Will update after I borrow a PSU.

Well it seems that pc is still in good standing (cpu , ram, mobo, psu), well i've tried to reformat but my win 7 kept on telling me missing or corrupt files, I've just recently used it on another computer and it works. My comp hangs at the POST screen after detecting hdd primary with a smart capable status ok. Could it be the failed install fubarred the mbr? Am at a loss i dont know what to do next. Posting via cellphone.

Sorry just got home and internet went out, I'm pretty sure now it is the hard drive. Even tho Smart may show "OK", issues can occur. Try swapping drives out and see what you get. If it work fine, then either bad HDD is or controller is...

I've got a feeling that it's the drive. I've tried an older 10gb drive that worked. I hope I can still pull out some of my data from the drive if I slave it from a functional computer. Sigh never saw this coming. What a real good birthday gift...

If I was to buy a hdd what sata hdd would be compatible to this? The board Asus P5PE-VM very ancient. Supports SATA 2.0 methinks.

You can put this thread to rest. Mobo dead, no led light when was supposed to try a borrowed hdd. Thank tpu for the quick replies. Guess will be spending coming bday with a bad weather and no gaming.
