Hello,
I have recently started my Masters at University, and have decided to focus my research on Machinima. For those who are not aware, Machinima is using a video game engine (such as Skyrim) to create a cinematic film/story, etc. When i first was pressured into starting my MA, i thought, oh I'll just make some great Machinima and I'll be all good. Though, it's obviously not as simple as that and considering my MA is for research, i need to have a question to answer.
For example, If my research questions wanted to find out about the impact of narrative and the potential to subvert existing archetypal characters (such as a hero, knight or thief). My methodology would then determine that I create a script to test this theory, create a corresponding Machinima film, and log my experimental work and reflections on the work.
The script in question would depict a thief as the hero, the hero as a villain and the knight as a coward hiding behind his armour. I would create a number of short experiments before embarking on the final piece of film. Obviously, this is just an example.
Now i am in need of help, because i want to my research questions to be meaningful and focused, and i am at a mindblock. ideally being related to ongoing issues/concerns with Machinima. Any help would be very appreciated.
Thanks for reading.
