I need to expand the life of my last x58 system until I can find any way to afford my next upgrade. Looking for any decent priced hex core. I may also be interested in an x58 backup motherboard if the price is right. I won't have the funds until the 22nd, so take your time. I have paypay, which is slow, and interac, which is instant. And again, I can show anyone in the States how easy it is to ship to Canada.

Yeah, after hunting through ebay, saw what ppl want for the 970.... going after an x5670 instead now. Should do 4.2 on air, and average price 120us.
Getting my buddy in the US to check out the sellers ect, I don't know squat about ebay. Nice price on that mobo though, I may see if I have the funds
left to grab that if it's still around.

Huge exchange difference right now! I didn't know we are at 79c. Saving up extra now, for an extra month, but now I want an x5680 or x5690. Just no point in playing around.

4.2 will be a tough task. My puppies didn't want that high fsb, rare bsods despite prime test stability. Remember to cool the bridge, I gained much stability by doing so. Gulftowns and Westmeres have different voltage rules than Nehalems.

Meanwhile I am also hunting a 2011 hex. Gosh 4930k costs 640Euro here, go plough themselves... Trying to find a 3930k or 3960X... Putting that near 4.5Ghz and I am safe for a year... I don't see X99 as a reasonable platform, way too raw.

I think my D14 will get me 4-4.2 stable. But I'll need the dam 80 or even 90 to get it. 200 us. Breaks every rule I set for buying a cpu, never above 200... oh well.

It'll be a long sub, 5 weeks to next cheque for me. But sent 50 to paypal so I can add to it. Really want a x5690, but an 80 will do for the right price. I want vt-d, yes I like running virtual machines,
so I really want a server xeon.... and a high binned hex....

Are you planning on doing PCI-E pass-through? If not, you don't need VT-d, only VT-x. Just wanted to throw that out there.
Side note: You may be able to find a used skt2011 setup for cheaper, just an idea. I still love my 3820 and don't play to upgrade any time soon and if I did, it would be to a Xeon on the same board.

Well yes I was thinking of sticking a 2nd vid card in, got 3 slots, and get real time acceleration for say a win98 virtual machine, and run dos games ect. I already have an x58 mobo, so an x5680 for 170us isn't a bad deal. Same as a 980x, just higher binned. I was looking at sr-2 mobos, but very rare, and expensive, so I'll stick to one xeon....

even a 5650 would do with 190x21.
we had 3 or 4 of them and all did 4ghz easy with low volts.
one on watercooling did 210x21-maybe i find the pic.

I believe it! But a 5680 will walk up to 4.2 on air like it's nothing. On ebay it's a pretty big price jump from 5670, but it's the extreme edition xeon.
It's a 980x on steroids, and I want one bad! Last hurrah for an old x58 system, I have to do it....

of all the xeons in that class the 5660 was the best overclocker

Thanks, but nah, a 5670 can barely do 4.2 on air, and with a lot of heat. I have to go for the 5680... no multi issues, and I should be able to hit 4.2 at under 1.35v..... hopefully.
It'll still smoke a 4790 ect.....

It's nice, but I've already had a 950 that could do 4.5 stable on air, but too hot for me unless I buy watercooling.... I need a hex core that can hit
4-4.2 on air all day, and that's going to take a x5680 or a 980x.

Well that narrows it down some. I was going to shoot ya a PM regarding having a 5650 but I don't know that it will achieve your wanted 4.2. Haven't had it running long enough to test how far of an OC it'll do. Had it at 3.8xxx a week or so ago but haven't had the time to press it any further.
