Probably a good chip 4945mhz with 1.248V.
What about stability test and temperature ?

It's stable as a rock at these settings. Temp is good too, no issues.

If he has a high enough LLC setting cpu-z could be 100mv bellow actual voltage which seems to be the case because an i5 2500k should require between 1.35 and 1.5volts for over 4.9Ghz

My idea consists of leaving it at 4.945GHz and calling the job a good one.

I see no benefit from attaining a few more MHz out of this chip when the voltage is already at (as close as could be) 1.5v..... 1.5v and 32nm seems rather.... inappropriate?

I'd hate to be the guy who buys this used 2500K off you. :D

I never oc'ed this chip before, just wanted to try it, first time today.
Less than 2 hours this way to see if it would be stable, it is.
I'm backing it down in a hour to default, I'd never sell this cpu anyways, I love it.
Thanks though

That is too much , Sandy > 1.4V (regardless of temp) for 24/7 use will begin degradation. Best to keep around 1.35V
But if you just try for short benching then voltage should not exceed 1.52v on air/water (for Sandy and Ivy).

If thats the case, my friend, then you should find the GHz "sweet spot" for 1.3 - 1.35v.... it will give the best balance of performance/watt ratio and temps.... it will also aid your 2500K in fighting off the inevitable death from 1.5v lol :p

Thanks, I didn't even wait 1 more hour, you guys got me too worried. It's back to default all and will stay there.
I just felt like taking a chance, I think I came close enough to 5.0GHz to make me happy.

If you wanna break 5ghz you're gonna need between 25 and 50mv more so I suggest you max the fan and try 1.53v to 1.56v if your temps stay bellow 75C°

I appreciate that input from you.
But I think I'm done. I really love this particular chip, bought it new years ago, been stock all it's life and runs like a champ stock, so I'm all done.
I don't want to take the chance to damage it.
I just got a wild hair for a couple hours, nothing to do today, freezing outside so I had some playtime.

Nope when benching sandy and sandy-e can both survive upto 1.65v(mine was fine after 15min of 1.725v) as long as temps don't exceed 75C. for a 24/7 settings don't exceed 1.55v at 75C. I run my 3960x at 1.525v for 2 years now and it has not degraded at all it actually got better doing 4.9ghz on 1.45 instead of 1.475.

Instead of leaving it at stock clocks, you could see how fast you could get it to go on stock voltage 1.2V. My 2500k does 4.0GHz at stock voltage and I imagine most others can do the same as well.

Instead of leaving it at stock clocks, you could see how fast you could get it to go on stock voltage 1.2V. My 2500k does 4.0GHz at stock voltage and I imagine most others can do the same as well.

This particular line of thought was going to be my next suggestion.

Seeing as all chip/boards combo's are different at setting a default idle/load voltage, you should stress your CPU at "Auto"/default BIOS settings and then work with the voltage that gives you (1.28v max? guesstimate) to overclock your 2500K

Increasing the multi by 1 in the BIOS each time you pass 5 minutes of your favorite stress test is always a good start. :)

damn, 1.496-1.512? and looking at the screenshot in your OP it says 1.248? that is a gigantic vdroop lol. why dont you increase LLC ? i'm sure you can lower that vcore for sure.
I am a bit afraid to play with Load Line Calibration or LLC.
I heard LLC causes voltage spikes and I want to steer clear of that by all means. I read somewhere that LLC actually caused voltage spikes when going from full load to low load. I guess the thinking is the voltage regulators on the motherboard can't react fast enough to the sudden change in CPU load, and keep delivering full load power for an instant when the CPU did not need it.
I'm not positive on the factuality of this but I figured let me see what I could do without playing with LLC.
Once I seen over 1.5, I said enough is enough, quit while I'm ahead before I fry something.
So that's it for me.
Thanks for the info and the LOL though...lol.

My 2500k is at 4.6ghz at around 1.3v

I have another 2500k identical system has been doing not much for 2 years now. Basically used for MS Word and Excel.

I call that one my System 2

I was playing with my baby, System 1
I use this one just for gaming.

Maybe I'll go crazy today and mess with System 2 to see if I can hit that magic number 5.

If it hits 5GHz I'll take some screen shots and post, but only if it runs for 2 hours under 50-70% load with no issues or I won't be happy.
If I fry it, I'll post a pic so we can all have a good laugh. Man, I feel real balzy today!

I hope the Noctura is up to the task.

LLC is very important for overclocking. I have mine set to normal and now my i5 2500K runs stabily at 4.8GHz at 1.40v.

For 24/7 overclocks, I don't run LLC, I just run more offset. I don't like the idea of getting rid of Intel's Vdroop design. I also don't like how it adds additional voltage since I don't use a multimeter on my board all the time, I can't really tell what its doing!
For benchmarking it helps a lot, I just wouldn't run LLC at high settings 24/7. I do 3770k 4.8ghz at 1.38v fixed voltage with extreme llc extreme pwm power phase.

For 24/7, I do the highest clock I can achieve at 1.25v (using offset), which for this chip is 4.5 to 4.6, and for my sandy bridge is 4.5. 1.25 is a typical stock voltage, so I figure its a nice safe setting. Usually at this voltage I don't get over 75*C on my ivy bridge. I think sandy gets to about 60*C.

My 2500k is at 1.25v with +0.050 offset, I never touched the LLC.

Max temp is around 60c running BF4 or Neverwinter.

Hello everyone,i hope im in right place as im looking for an advise regarding my 2500k 5.ghz oc.
I am big fan of fsx (Microsoft Flight Simulator X).been flying for the past 5+years on my amd x4 805cpu 2.5ghz and there were no options for oc at all,fsx run on average settings, but it always were struggle with fps especially when flying online,as fsx very cpu demanding,it requires fastest single core cpu, finally decided to take this pain off chest and manage to save for better intel system as follows:
ASRock > Z68 Extreme3 Gen3
i5 2500k now @5.ghz vcore1.392-1.4 under prime95
560gtx twin frozor3 power edition
corsair h80i in push pull(just instaled)
samsung 840 evo 120gb ssd in ACHI (windows, fsx)
WD. 500gb (storage+fsx addons)
corsair 650w psu
2x4gb corsair vengeance ddr3 lp 1600mhz cl9
all that in Zalaman z9plus with 7x120 fans.
I always been reading round forums and dreaming about oc for my fsx needs, but im still just a noob in this,i manage step by step to get my 2500k at 5ghz with vcore 1.416v at full load in prime 95 and 1.392v at idle i have set in bios cpu voltage fixed mode 1.4v and additional turbo voltage +0.08v,cpu pll set to fixed and lowered to 1.791v,
Load Line Calibration set to level 1 and there is nearly no vdroop under load what didnt work with either of other levels.
ive done 1hour in prime 95 with max temps of 59c
3hours of flying fsx with max temps of 51c.the chip seems to be nearly as golden :)
Im very happy with this oc and im definetlly not looking for more,it even goes 5.3 with vcore 1.44(not stress tested),but this is usless as 4.9-5 is ghz more the enough for me and as per forums there is nearly no difference after 4.6 or 4.8,but ive wud like to keep it at 5 for fsx only.

My first question as follows:how to set it from fixed to offset cpu voltage as i tried positive and negative voltages it dosent boot in windows anymore on any offset voltages, back on fixed no problems,i need this to let the vcore voltage drop when idle,as the cpu steps back at 1600ghz when not gaming i want the voltage back too,to stay on a safe side.
Secondary if there is no way to get it work on offset at 5ghz is there any other trick to reduce voltage when idle?
Ive had an other idea to make a second profile in bios one for fsx at 5 with current settings--other for normal use round 4.8ghz(vcore as required-round 1.32v),but this is not very comfy to switch between them some days even several time a day:(

And finaly,if there is no way at all,can i keep it 5ghz at 1.4vcore 24/7
im wored abbout general tear n wear at 5ghz these silicon wears etc.been reading round forums how safe i am with these settings, ive seen some 2500k at 4.7 1.5vcore seems crazy high, but guess someone might have unlucky chip.
Sorry for extra long post, but this is my first post within my time regarding my pc advice.
will add some screen shots as well cpu-z,real temp etc.

Thanks in advance.
Regards Igors
