Can I format back and forth with USB thumb drives?

You can but afaik, you will loose all data in the process.

I have 2 USB 2 thumbs, but both are NTSF, and the DVD player I want will only accept Fat32 with a 1 gig file size limit.

Well best thing to do, would be to copy the stuff on your USB's onto your HDD. Then got to My Computer, right click on the USB drive and click format. Then you can pick your options (leave most things on default) but pick FAT or FAT32 as file system. Then once the format is complete, copy everything back.

I just converted my I gig drive back to FAT32 and all seems fine.

I wonder if anyone knows the maximum bitrate that a DVD's USB port will accept, ie, I know it will be limited to DVD resolution, but what about bitrates?

I just created a 720X400@7800kbps+256mp3 divX from a 1080i tp and it plays back off my USB thumb connected to my Pioneer 410 DVD player.

TV = 42in HDTV plasma.
