My friend forgot his password on Windows 7, Aspire laptop. and asked me if I could bypass it since I am more computer savy than he is. It has the administrator password either as I tried to set the USB to primary boot but can't do that in safe mode. I found safe mode is useless!

I didn't have a password reset disc. So, is there a way that could reset windows 7 admin password?

Download Hiren's BootCD, read how to use it to reset Windows Passwords. Should have at least one utility that can get it done for you. You set primary boot device in BIOS/EFI, before you get into Windows Safe Mode options. What model of Aspire laptop are you working on?

You can burn it to disc using Imgburn or make a bootable USB using Rufus.

Edit: I did a quick Google for Acer Aspire BIOS, came up with the below link, hope it helps!:

I tried Hire's bootcd, but it seems it can't reset the password, when I reset the password, and I reboot my computer, and still ask for a password.

@Shelly1444 I wonder if a recent patch has disabled this workaround?

The fact that this disc still works on Windows (this example notwithstanding) shows how pants security really is on Windows. I guess Microsoft have intentionally done this so that users aren't permanently locked out of their computer.

Apple security on iPads/iPhone is another story however. Forget that Apple ID or have a stolen one and you've got a very expensive paperweight. Hacking it isn't too easy either. Apple will then only unlock it for you if you can prove ownership. I can see why Apple do this and I'm all for it.

Recent Android builds work like this too, but I don't know how resistant they are to hacking.

I just use the Microsoft DART disc for that OS. We have them at work. Hiren's doesn't want to work for me all the time for some reason.

Personally i would never set a password for windows ( but I understand certain situations call for it) . I have a friend who uses a password for no reason,& after him forgetting it for the fifth time, i began using a piece of masking tape, wrapped around the power cord(or any cord behind the pc,& i had him write the password on that tape. He never gets locked out anymore:)

Hm, this can be handled a few different ways. Can you boot into Windows at all in safe mode?
Can you plug this hard drive into another PC?
Do you have a USB drive you can put linux tools on?
Do you know how to do this type of thing?

Answering these will help us help you.

Trinity Reset Kit, go in and either unlock admin account or remove his password.

If you google like "windows 7 bootable password reset" you should get a bunch of usb bootable options to do it free.
