Hi, I got my son a dell Inspiron gaming desktop with the ryzen 7. He want to upgrade the gpu to a GTX 1660. The psu is supposed to be 460 watts from what I found on the internet. Right now it has a RX 580. I'm not sure how many pins either gpu is and was wondering if I can just swop them thanks

You'll want to pop the side panel off and verify if you have an 8 pin pcie cable ( it should have an 8+6 pin )

Also you should be looking at a 1660 super but maybe that's what you meant. A 2060/5600XT should also work for about $60 more and provide a much more substantial upgrade. I would lean towards one of the $299 evga 2060 ko models.

Not sensible to go from a 580 to 1660, if anything go to a Vega56 or a 5600XT

I'm going to check the pins tomorrow but will the psu be able to handle upgrading to a 2060 or 5600xt.

Yes, but if you do get a 5600XT make sure it's the 14Gbps variant.

Is there a new stock unit number or something?

Powercolor, Sapphire have Bios flash tools to enable it.

No idea honestly, but it should be on the vendor websites which ones support 14gbps and which ones don't.... That's why it's easier just to get a 2060 ko it's like 10 bucks more than a good 5600XT model and you don't have to deal with any of that.

Hardware unboxed is pretty pro amd and even they say go with the 2060 ko.

@Ecwlive both of these cards use less power than a 580.

So I checked it out and I have one 6 pin and one with 6 pin with an extra 2 not plugged in to anything. So 6 plus 2 equals 8, right? If so he'll be going with the 2060

That also depends where the OP is from.

For example where I live the KO model is either nonexistent or completely overpriced to the point of costing more than a 'standard' 2060.:wtf:

@OP,if that PSU can handle the RX 580 atm then it won't/shouldn't have any problem with the listed cards since they draw even less power or so.

You may want to make sure that you can use a Nvidia card in that computer. My son's Lenovo thinkcentre m91p doesn't allow AMD cards.

Umm, wut?

I know they have some bios restrictions but I don't think have seen them exclusively lock out a vendor entirely.

I remember something about Lenovo "whitelisting" certain GPUs in the BIOS

Yup and pay for a broken 2070/2080 chip which draws more power than a 2060ti...

Never seen a 5600xt have flash troubles like the rx560 series being a D or non D...

Ok, we ended up upgrading the power supply to a 750watt Corsair and I'm going to buy the 2060 ko for his birthday that's in 3 weeks. But first, the reason he wants to upgrade his gpu is because he has a 1080p 144hertz monitor that he got for Christmas. Is the 2060ko able to handle that?
thanks

Yeah it should do the job pretty well.

Edit: I was thinking the KO is more like Super. The KO is really the minimum high refresh 1080p. It may struggle on some games, particularly the newer ones.

Seems like A decent fit around 100fps is where you want to be and the 10-11fps gain from a super variant for $100+ more just isn't worth it imo.

if you want more graphical oomph go with a 5700XT preferably one of the decent models like the sapphire nitro or Msi gaming X. its faster and usually cost around the same as a similar aib model.

That's between you and the OP.

I personally would just spend the extra money but if the OP feels confident in flashing his GPU go for it

Although currently in the USA the 5700 pulse is only $20 cheaper than the 5700XT

And afaik a 5700 nitro doesn't exist.

Yeah Looks like Sapphire left the 5700 Nitro off the sku listing. But the 5700 Pulse is the easiest by far to flash to a 5700XT Pulse (done it using atiflash GUI)

The only 1s that you cant flash both sides of bios is the Powercolor Reddragon/Devil Cards, only the Silent bios can be replaced...
