So when not mobile, is there a way to use my 100hz IPS GSYNC laptop screen plugged directly into my desktop i5-8400 1080 ti build? or is this not possible? my laptop has a 1070, just thought it would be neat to try.

i'm currently saving up for the 200hz ultrawide coming out next year, so until then... :D

There are ways to utilize a full sized gpu with a laptop, but it requires a spare port for the gpu. Aside from that, I suppose it would depend on whether your laptop has a video/display IN port. If either of those 2 criteria are met, i would imagine (since it seems your desktop gpu is also capable of gsync) it should work.

i have a mini displayport and hdmi 2.0 on laptop and large displayport and hdmi 2.0 on 1080 ti.

but if its going to be complicated im not going to worry about it, because in all honesty my 1070 is plenty fine for this laptop 100hz 1080p gsync, lol... i just thought it would be fun to try out if it was easy to do.

like load up total war warhammer, on max settings with tons of armies on the field, lol. just see to see if i could bring the 1080 ti its knees... yeah i know i need a life, leave me be! haha

Using laptop screen as a monitor for you desktop computer?
Short answer - no.

Your laptop does not have any inputs that would do the trick. all the display ports on laptop are outputs.

The eDP connector of the notebook "should" be able to connect to a Display Port in the GPU, by removing the laptop screen and getting an adapter, good luck with that.
