ok between KEF c65 and paradigm phantom v.4 (some pics but in thai) which would you get? phantoms are about 50 bucks more but both are pretty cheap. phantoms is close to home and looks a bit in better shape. is it so bad to buy old speakers if they werent rock and rolled with and looked after?

If I could, id go with boston acoustics. I love their bright sound. very nice high and mids. I have a 12" active sub to give a little hum to it. im no basshead though. music mostly from 70's 80's annie lennox, eurotrash, spandau ballet, chicago, air supply, depeche mode, foreigner, spandeu ballet, reo speedwagon, van halen, hall and oates, talking heads, information society, PSB, fleetwood mac. no jass classical or heavy rock metal. classic rock from 80s

Aren't the K160 bookshelf speakers and the C65 floor standing? If so that matters when determining which pair to get.

all of them are floor standing. I was constantly back and forth between floor and desk, but I want my desk space. the only problem is projecting the floors. the desk, theyre right there in your face. floors on sides of desk and I may need to prop up a bit. but these phantoms are 94cm.

fingers crossed theyre ok. theyre ugly af though. what can I do? is there a black overlay or just sand and spray paint satin black?

I had a pair of the black Phantom V2's from back then. They were ok. Needed a sub. I was running an Adcom GTP 450 and GFA 545 combo.

I have a 12" active sub. I have to turn it down. I dont want boom boom but some lower hum.

with the sub how was it? and what did you get after? im not a bass head. I also cant use the majority of the power of the active sub. I consider my older couple near my wall. so a bit is ok but not rumbly bass. Id probably just be ok w/o the sub but a bit of the deeper hum is so enjoyable. but I like bright sound. I love BA sound with a bit of bass

all these versions 2 3 4 etc...is there a noticeable improvement or minor?

did you use an equalizer?

I feel theres so many times of things I listen to and it needs tweaking (EQ). for instance I want a different tweaked sound curve for just watching on yt. I dont need crazy full/richness there like maybe more accurate for music and something a bit grand for a movie.

so worth getting?

you should not be able to hear your sub, you should hear the bass, but not be able to discern the direction of the sub. The sub frequency should just blend in with the other sounds.

Hard to say really, the C65's had 2 woofers or was one a filter ?. Been a while since hearing to any kef, but remember having a issue with them one way or another may it be a lack of base or tweeters being to bright.

But i would go for larger speakers over smaller ones.

How about infinity ?, how ever they might need some work and will depend on what your willing to pay.

Personally i would love to hear the paradigm studio 60 v2 ( performance ), i have the 20's and the sound from them is really nice. Lovely sound stage to my ears.

Of course as always every thing depends on how some one hears them and their mood at the time of hearing them, i have 4 pairs of speakers i listen too due to it.

you should not be able to hear your sub, you should hear the bass, but not be able to discern the direction of the sub. The sub frequency should just blend in with the other sounds.

Maybe needs sub location change.

my speakers cant play gold/true well. its not as clean as it could be

I liked his preppy style back then. the suit and all.

I got the sub from someone who was moving. I connected it and told my brother it sounds like its coming from my desktops. it seems like a quality vintage sub. surround is still in tact. free is a good price. unless its poop. poop is free. doesnt mean its good haha

You must like them a lot, given that you mentioned them twice.

Does your blood begin to boil if you happen to hear PM Dawn?
Talk about being set adrift on a memory bliss! The 80's and 90's music... ftw.

On topic, I've always liked Paradigm for its great value.

Btw, here are my classic Sony SS-M7's still kicking today, pic for example.

I was joking of course, hinting at the Spandau sample. I hope they got compensated at some point, even if not a given in 91.

Sure, but there are loads of great music from young artists these days, who really appreciate different kinds of 80's sounds and styles.

Edit: Now I see I'm not talking to the OP. He did mention both Spandau and Spandeu in the same sentence, that's why I asked if it was a cover band. I've known of them since the last millennia lol.

wow, thanks for reminding me of that song! I loved pm dawn!! I dont mind songs that sample other songs as long as its done well. that song did quite well on the charts too.

so much garbage. compare the legacy left of the 70/80 and some of 90s that left a mark vs today. why so many people prefer that music is benchmarks for quality

You could also drive yourself nuts attempting to integrate a sub. There is a reason speakers are designed together, crossed over, very carefully aligned, etc and so on.

It certainly did, although there was one track that I did like. 2 songs defined (for me) the late 70's/early 80's in the UK, contrasts in themselves but defined a difficult period in the UK for most people of my age back then ..............

This one is a video of a live concert and the extended performance of just one track, the gig was 1981 I think, the track was their first big UK hit from 78/79, if you can spare 10 minutes please do, if like me your impatient then fast forward to around 4 mins 50 working up to 6.30 ...........
